Here's an interesting article about B&O's plans to enter the Smart TV alliance and bring a Smart TV to market. Could it be the new TV that is rumored for October?

I'd love to see them pull it off - there is less risk to creating a common standard to allow greater integration. Here's hoping!

I usually don't comment on the kindergarten behavior, but this forum seems to get ruder every day..
... very sorry to read these kind of words.

AND: this forum used to have a lot more enthusiam, now it seems it has came to a complaint collection (ok, I remember: on most forums people tend to wirte about was is not working - seeking help - not writing about how well everything works)
.. but times are changing, aren't they?

Paul...

Why are you here? Honestly?

From what I gather, you apparently bought some kit in the 90's when you were 13, and then inherited a few odd 70's pieces?

That is it. You have never asked any questions about the kit. You rarely, if ever, answer any questions.

Instead, you sit at your keyboard and perpetually lambaste B&o and praise a bunch of other plebian gear.

It would be one thing if you are an active B&o customer and had some issues with your kit. I have seen plenty of regular contributors go through h3ll with some gear on this site in a venting, but always civilized manner. With that said, I will admit to having thrown quite a few bricks in my years here.

I never know which Paul is going to show up, so I will simply ask: Can you please stop the henpecking?

Quite right Ralf - embarrassing behaviour! That and also the occasional slight air of smugness and condescension from a minority of members. Apart from that I do still enjoy the positive discussions from many friendly members here and the general enthusiastic support of the brand of which I am still a great fan!

Is this the result of the partnership they jointly anounced with Intel a while back or did that fall by the wayside and this is something completely new?

Prices/specs please, no matter how inaccurate or fictional. Another early Christmas present beckons i reckon, whilst the kids schooling goes on hold.

Anyone here live near Manchester?

Look at the I thing and other makes they have to have updates at times to improve add life B+O is no diffrent I enjoy my gear had B+O for over 30 years started when I was 17 with a 5500 system then went on form there, now years later my whole house is connected  and use every day!..And my best item after my BV55 is my BM5 used every day and it dont crash....

And sorry to complain but think there is a BUG in/on Beoworld, keeps poping up on the forum now and again!  Does not seam to do very much but be a BUG!..Looking at this BUG a few times I have worked out it is called the Paul BUG...seams to crash around B+O when Discussed[ :'(] Maybe just maybe it needs re-bootingWhistle or is installed in the wrong gear??????

Smart TV with a B&O twist, that is going to be interesting.

Other Smart TV's have not really turned me on (yet).

But no doubt, something in this area will be the future, i.e. with integration of Netflix, HBO etc.

So B&O must work with some of the other big brands.

Amen to that,

smart means different things to different people - My Avant is bloody smart enough to me and in fairness it does reproduce the crappy "digital" free-view pixels and squeaky noises to absolute perfection. Yap I've stacked in the moment and don't want to get out of it ....

yet to be convinced that HD is good investment (no matching content), or the world is round for that matter Big Smile

I am on my second "smart-tv" in my living room and they both worked/work very good. Mainly use the smart features to stream video over my network. Which the V1 can do but not very good today - I HOPE IT WILL GET MUCH BETTER. Here is the question of how good B&O is at UX, software engineering and such things.

One of the things I like about the V1 is the simple idea of just having a TV that does eh Tv well great picture and sound. In reality most Blu-ray players have a smart engine on them so if the Tv can just have great picture and sound then you're really sorted.

Taking the V1 idea further if you want this you just add apple Tv and like I said above a blu-ray player with these features. bbc iplayer, Itv iplayer etc would all be welcome additions but I can't see myself wearing 3d glasses in the house just as I can't see myself using the Tv for facebook etc. Maybe I'm just old fashioned.

I think Paul has a point , b&o aren't exactly that hot at software are they ?

Why don't they just make a dumb tv with amazing picture and sound and let the experts ( like Apple ) do all the clever stuff ?

Back in 1990 when I got my B&O setup, I found a obvious bug in the VX5000 software within my first 24 hours. A program scheduled for recording weekly would record, then record again in 12 hours.  So, they've had software quality problems for a long long time. The latest Apple PUC as of a few weeks ago was also broken (play button didn't work), we had to downgrade my BeoSystem 3 to the older one. I dream some day they can get their act together.  Are they just not investing enough in software testing?

On the other hand, Beosystem 3's ability to handle two separate displays in different locations and the AST feature are pretty amazing and unique, and largely software-based. And BeoSound 5's MOTS at least seems cool in concept to me. So they're not totally incompetent.

They choose to run Beomaster 5 on a via-processor. Just that is a choice made by complete nutjobs. And I think the menu system in the V1 is innecessary confusing. Different things happen when you press ok and so forth. Not very logic either. I have the V1 and still gets confused sometimes. Like the EPG, different colors if you go into it in different ways. Just confusing and not very well developed yet.

I have been told that B&O has outsourced (some?) of their SW development, and I think it is very critical that a SW developer understand eco system in depth. Especially also those to specify and test the SW.

I think B&O has a challenge here, and as mentioned in many other posts, SW in B&O products are just going to be more and more complex and B&O need to handle that.

Just imagine how complex the sound engine is in the V1, it has to handle all different kind of speaker combinations (using B&O speakers you can a LOT of combinations).
