Hi all,

Im new to B&O Beograms and just purchased a 5500 to sit alongside my other stuff.

Steve from Soundsheavenly very kindly sorted me out with a pre-amp and connections in order to hook this 5500 up to my Becenter 2 - into a BV11-55 - and then into Beolab 5s and Beolab 3s.

My question relates to pick-ups/stylus. I can’t find much information and would be grateful if anyone could point me in the right direction; which stylus’s will fit a 5500 in general and which is the ‘best’?

many thanks

The low mass MMC 1-5 series are the only cartridges that will fit your turntable. Given the quality of your speakers, I would go for an MMC2 cartridge as the minimum for your system. The problem will be finding one that isn't in need of refurbishment. In fact, arguably your best bet is to source a refurbished one from one of the specialists who undertake this work such as Franz-Joseph in Germany https://www.tonabnehmerservice.de/en/B-O-MMC-Cartridge/

That will give you the option to specify the quality of cantilever and stylus.

Alternatively, Soundsmith in the US make new compatible cartridges with the nomenclature SMMC that are very good if a tad pricey
