I recently purchased a set of Penta MKIII speakers, boelab 8000 speakers, Beosound 9000, Beolab 4000 speakers and Velodyne subwoofer.   The setup included RCA cables (no power link cables).   The Aux connection on the Beosound 9000 has a splitter into 4 RCA connections.  Each RCA connection is color coded (2 black, 1 red, 1 white) - not sure if there is any significance to the colors.   When I've connected the one black and one white RCA cables to each of the Penta speakers they produce sound (loud) even though the Beosound's volume is set to 0.

- I'm assuming the volume issue is related to how I've connected the speakers.  Is there any way to adjust sound via the Beosound 9000 with the RCA cables or do I need to get power link cables?

- Will the display on the Penta speakers work without power link cables?  Right now, there is no display when connected via the RCA cables

- Can the remaining 2 RCA cables be connected to the subwoofer?

only one of the Beolab 9000 speakers has a power cable and neither of the Beolab 4000 speakers have a power cable.  I'll need to find those along with audio cables.  I'm planning on eventually getting a non-B&O receiver for surround sound with power link to RCA connections.

My B&O products: Beosound 9000, Beolab 8000 x2, Beolab 4000 x2, Penta MKIII x2

Hi kjoak,

All of the issues that you described sound like they are related to the cabling being used.  You can easily resolve these by fitting the correct Powerlink cables instead of RCA cables.  Without using the correct Powerlink cables, the Penta displays won't work and you won't have full volume control via the B&O remote (as the 9000 won't detect any speakers being connected).

For the Penta speakers, please only use fully wired mk.2 Powerlink cables to get the displays working (one cable per speaker):-

https://www.soundsheavenly.com/powerlink-8-pin-din-connection/23-powerlink-mk-2-compatible-black-8-pin-din-cable-with-fully-wired-8-cores.html

The Beolab 4000 and 8000 speakers can be daisy-chained from the extra Powerlink outputs on the Penta speakers and these can either use the same type of cables as above, or you can use the thinner and cheaper mk.3 Powerlink cables for these speakers (one cable per speaker):-

https://www.soundsheavenly.com/powerlink-8-pin-din-connection/20-powerlink-mk-3-compatible-8-pin-din-cable-with-4-cores-wired-low-profile-cable.html

Simply connect the cable in the link below from a spare Powerlink output on the 9000 or on any of the speakers to the RCA input on the subwoofer:-

If your subwoofer has two input sockets, please connect both plugs on the cable, otherwise either plug can be used if the subwoofer only has one input socket (Please use the Line In sockets, not the LFE Sockets).  Set the subwoofer volume to approx. 50-75% and then adjust it as required to match the level of your other speakers.  The subwoofer volume can now be controlled automatically from the B&O remote along with the other speakers.

If you run out of Powerlink sockets, simply add these Splitters (one for each extra socket that you need) to give you more speaker connections:-

If you don’t already have the mains power cables for the B&O system and speakers, I keep these in stock here in a choice of lengths:-

Please ask if you would like any help when you are ready to add the AV receiver and we can assist you to get everything working.

Kind regards, Steve.

Steve.
