Hi All,
Recently purchased a new STB (Ferguson Ariva 153 Combo) to replace a SKY+ Digital box. The Sky+ box has an ir Blaster stuck to the front over the ir receiver. This ir blaster is connected to the System3, AV3 ctrl socket.
I would like to change out the Sky+ box to place the new ferguson STB in its place and use the ir blaster to control the new box. The current system 3 PUC library has no ferguson products listed. I tried using other STB's in the PUC, incase there might be some that overlap codes.
I see the 2013 PUC listed in the Tech wiki on here, has two Ferguson's on the list.
The closet dealer is about 300Kms away, standard call out fee for my area is 350 Euros. So before I call them I thought I would ask here if there is away I can update PUC's on old System 3.
I am also looking at the ir Translators from irTrans and Lintronic as possible solution. But they are also in the 200 to 300 euro range. The STB cost 80.
Many Thanks

Thanks Seanie. Good idea re. shipping the laptop. I have a call into the dealership, I will run this idea by them, when tech support gets back to me.
Some other info I got re. the Ferguson Ariva 153 STB. Looks like the remote that came with the 153 also works for Ariva 102,
http://wiki.ferguson.pl/en/RCU-540_Remote_Control_Codes
The good news is the Ariva 102 is in the later 2013 version of the BEO PUC library. Are there more recent versions of the PUC library, than 2013?

So if I can get a newer version of the PUC library, I should be sucking diesel :-)
I will update with my final solution.
Thanks
Yes I have been looking at
http://www.irtrans.de/en/shop/translator.php Total delivered price 187 Euros incl. VAT basic unit without extras (dc psu, comms cables, ir blasters)
and
http://www.lintronic.dk/Products.aspx Total delivered price 301 Euros incl. VAT basic unit without without extras (dc psu, comms cables, ir blasters)
I was wondering how I might integrate an ir translator with the System 3.
If I understand you correctly I could
> Leave the System 3 set to a Sky box, for example,
> Stick the ir blaster to the ir receiver on one of the translators above.
> Then Map the sky remote codes to the Ariva codes using the translator software
> Point the LED transmitters on the translators at the new Ferguson Ariva STB.
Is that correct?
Using a translator would certainly allow me to manage my own peripherals moving forward.
I am also thinking of adding a second STB
Looking at the Ferguson Ariva 4K Combo or an Amiko A4 Combo. Each has Digital TV, Sat Tuner and Android media centre in one box.
I assume one ir translator would allow me to operate 2 STBs and maybe more. STBs stacked in the cabinet with the translator pointing at both devices The number of devices is only limited by the number of commands that can be stored on the Translator
Lintronic spec state 250 commands. Example, config 50 commands for 5 peripherals =250
IRTrans Translator spec states 64KB Flashmemory for 500-800 commands.
If i can operate multiple peripherals from one ir translator, the price of the translator looks like much better value for money.
Sorry a lot of thinking out loud in this post
I'm always an awe when I see a BeoVision or Beosystem 3 that was programmed with only a few devices in the PUC, showing that the prior owner ONLY had his current devices included. Giving some thought into what you have loaded into your PUC and keeping in mind future needs can make a PUC update from a dealer well worth the cost. Especially when the dealer updates the software to the current version.
You might add the STB devices for any cable or satellite services in your area.
Add several of the more popular brands of TVs.
Add several of the more popular brands of blu-ray players, and include Oppo.
And of course, include the Apple TV.
If there's even the slightest chance of adding a projector at some point, add a few projector code sets into the PUC.
Hi Beojeff,
The system was installed when the house was built in 2008, I would say its hasn't had an update in 5+ years. The original owner didn't use the house much.
I have spoken to the Dealer and they said they will be down this way in early Dec, on another job and they could provide a service call to update the system for 150 Eurs. They have been very helpful to date, considering the unit is 8+ years old.
I will book the service call, to update the system 3 and the other B&O items in the system. Hopefully the update will work for the ferguson STB and as you suggest, I will ask the B&O guy to add as many relevant PUC files as it can take.
Not sure how many years the System 3 has got left, if I get another 3 years, I will be happy.
Thanks for your advice.
I would further suggest that you prepare the list of devices to add to the PUC and email it to your dealer so that he can prepare prior to the service call so that it would take less time and so you would be less likely to forget any devices. Adding several common brands such as Sony, Samsung, and Apple TV can give you flexibility for years to come. Also, the Oppo blu-ray player is nice to have as an option for a premium blu-ray player that has 2 HDMI connectors.
Thanks Jeff, I will chat with tech support prior to them coming to agree on the available options.
