Felow B&O fans,

I have a pair of Beovox S55 speakers. However, on both of the speakers the woofers don't work. I've opened them up and this is how they look

01b5d63b764319c609aed3be99b9df4269dc510ebd 01bd19446eac6fe58653c7601ab62066852f02c443 01d72833ffcb2598d137f8b54e9313c424469467ba 01faa566aee0ccaa90aca4bd0e7fbb7ed636993ebc 010dea66b77192baa97cf5885705ea5458144cb8af 012d4913526a739d32aff43ffab724a69b9bf78349 0100f060e6b70b8826ad12bec844fab08fdcdf2a7a

The magnets of the woofers can be removed. Should this be possible? Or do I need to buy new woofers? And if yes, do you know which ones is suitable for the S55?

Thanks in advance,

Boj

Those woofers are from Beovox S45 (Type 6302) and Beovox S45-2 (Type 6312).
They are not correct for Beovox S55.

The original woofer for Beovox S55 (part# 8480158) is shared with Beovox S45 (Type 6427 ONLY!). It is unique to those models and quite special at
6,4 Ohms impedance rather than 4 Ohms.

The S45 woofers (part# 8480114) are known to shed their magnets because the glue holding the magnet to the metal basket  losens.
It can be repaired by skilled DIY'ers and should ALWAYS be secured (which is fairly easy) prior to moving/shipping them. No exceptions!
The woofer visible in the photos seems to have damage to the edge of its voicecoil, which unfortunately leaves it beyond feasible repair.

My guess is, that the original woofers in the S55s had rotten foam surrounds - which is normal and absolutely repairable,
but the owner/seller replaced them with S45 woofers instead of repairing the original - probably not knowing that the repalcements won't
sound right and can't handle shipping without being secured.

You cannot buy new woofers. The impedance alone is impossible to match, as will the rest of the T/S parameters be.
Find original woofers. Have them refoam'ed if not already done.

Hi Martin,

One more question. What happens when I replace the woofer for a new 8 ohm woofer?

Thanks,

Boj

You would repeat the mistake made already.
Why not get the right part?
It will not be impossible to find and it will not be more expensive than any wrong replacement you might find.
I'll have a look in the dungeons.

Agree with Martin - the S55 is a really nice little speaker - a little bass light but accurate and pleasant to listen to. Changing the woofer will change the sound and this will be very unlikely to be for the better!
