Hello,

I plan to put a pair of beolab 3 above my couch (surround speaker) but parallel to the ceiling. I can't put them in the normal way as I don't have enough height (to complicated to explain).

If you have a same setup please let me know if you are happy with it.

4 beolab 5,  beolab 9, beolab 10, beolab 5000, beolab 8000 mk2, beolab 6002, beolab 3500, beovision 7 55 mk2,  2 beovision 11 46 mk4, beotime, beosound ouverture, beosound essence, beoplay A8, beomaster 900 RG de luxe and the collection continues...

Hi Olvisab,

What do you mean by parallel to the ceiling? If you mean installed and connected to the ceiling I do not think this is a good decision personally. It would be far too high and while you could theoretically angle the speakers downwards to a middle back sweet spot if you will, I still don't think you'd be getting the best from the speakers.

Having said that, it would still be OK since they are rears, so to a large extent not as significant as the fronts, but really you want to have them just above head height to the side of you, even though I acknowledge you say this is not easy or even possible. Could you not still use floor stands and have them next to the couch on either side? They do not have to be behind the couch necessarily, just to both sides. Simon.

B&O products are V1-32, BS2, H95, E8 and an Essence remote.
11-46 now replaced with Sony A90J 65”, Sony HT-A9, Sony UBP-X800M2 and Sony SRS-NS7.

Hi thanks for your answer

Whe I say parallel, just imagine the wall bracket fixed on the ceiling and the beolab 3 on it. then the speakers are parallel to the ceiling.

I have no electricity behind the couch and no chance to have (a bay window on a side and on the other side it has to be free).

The idea is not to get the best of the bl3, I have bl5 at front and bl9 for surround but at 4 meters behind my couch. The results are very good but the bl3 above the couch would add something more (aerial effects especially).

Oh yes in this case most definitely a good position with the acoustic lens making this even better. I must say BL3s are complete overkill in this kind of a setup ... but in a very good way! Great setup, enjoy! :)

thanks

I have actually a pair of bang olufsen IWS 2000 above the couch, I used them before (in another life when I didn't know what was a beovision). I could use them again controlled with a beolink passiv.

I will try them against the bl3 and if there is not so much differences I will keep the bl3 for another room.

I am a acoustic lens addict so I am sure the bl3 will do perfectly the job.

hiort,

that's the usual way and as the lens is oriented in the direction of your viewing/listening position it works well.

I don't know why it won't work, if like in my case your left wall was my ceiling.

I will complicate a little bit the situation as the beolab 3 will have to be hidden.

I don't want to see them hanging in the middle of the room.

They don't need to be refoamed (I just checked them), They were brand new when I bought them some years ago.

The last time I used them I heard a strange noise coming from the right one. I found a litlle rat/mouth dead biting the audio cable just behind the woofer. The cable was in his mouth.

really, really strange.

Hi

I do have such an setup, using BL3 both, in front as well as in the rear - in a combination with a BL11 and a BV 10-40.

The wall bracket allows you to put the acoustic lense into the direction of your main position - which in my case works really well.

The BV allows you as well to choose the right distance to each speaker in the sound settings.

I really like the sound, both with 5 speakers for TV and movies as well as with 4 speakers for music. I'm not sure if I find a good picture. However, I'm really satisfied with my setup.

Best
