I've noticed that the replacement battery for the H7/8/9 headphones is out of stock right now, does anyone know if this item will be available again or if it is permanently discontinued ?

It's showing up as in stock for me in the UK but I'm sure it's just out of stock where you are. It happens all the time with and has probably happened to pretty every product on the BeoPlay website at some point.

Oh cool, I had no idea - I've never actually bought something from there so assumed they'd have different things for different countries like most places do
If the battery is obsolete already I'll simply throw my hat in the air and say 'Game Over'....
Hpwever, I don't think it will be after such a short period.

Actually it looks like the availability depends on the country you're from, in the French store for instance it says "available in 10 days":

I'd hate to learn that this battery has already been phased out, the user replaceable battery was THE killer feature I bought the H8 for.
I have just checked and it is readily available as a spare part from a main dealer. It would take two days to arrive. It must be out of stock at Beoplay.com?

I also found it on an online UK store, but some other stores are out of stock, there must be some kind of shortage I guess.
