Hi to all,

Bang & Olufsen climbs the chart of the UK's most wanted brands! Last year, B&O was placed 40th but now B&O is joined by Apple the only other technology brand for the UK's 20th most wanted brand according to 2012 consumer superbrands survey, powered by The Centre of Brand Analysis.

The definition of a superbrand is one that "has established that finest reputation in it's field. It offers customers significant emotional and/or tangible advantages over its competitors, which customers want and recognise".

B&O is loosing turn-over, on the other hand climbing the chart of the most wanted brands!!! What a dilemma :)

Beovision Avant 55 / BV 11-40 / BV7-40 / Beovision Avant / Beosound 9000 / Beosound 5 Encore / Beosystem 4500 / Beosystem 6500 / Beocenter 9000 / Beolab 5000 / Beolab 18 / Beolab 19 / Beolab 11 / Beolab 17 / 3 sets of Beolab 4000 / Beovox Red Line 60.2

Sadly I wouldn't read too much in to this 'survey'. As Lee rightly points out, it's a board (see the Expert Council in your article) that judges the 'super cool' brands, not the average person on the street. This board is your usual bespectacled, black cashmere jumper designer types. They aren't speaking to people on the street.

If I spoke to people on the street, most people under 45 wouldn't say that B&O is one of their most desirable brands. Don't get too excited. Sales in the UK are not suddenly on the up. The brand hasn't suddenly become 'cooler' on the street.

That would be Saab owners then, according to Top Gear. (Last 1/3 of programme.)

That said, the share price is up 38% since December.  So. credit where its due.... maybe the Play launch has had a beneficial effect beyond selling a few Beolits to the apple database.

Still got a long way to go though. If you read the comments under a B&O news story on T3, Stuff etc, mostly the comments are negative, include "aimed at rich people who have no sense" (some truth in that, sadly), so the coolness of the brand doesn't seem to reflect so much with the average bloke on the street.

But then B&O shouldn't be for the average bloke on the street. We buy B&O as we want to be a bit different. Think different, if you like.

I wouldn't write "whata dilemma" if I'm excited about the survey Wink

However, B&O will never be "cool enough" on the street since not everybody able to effort let say 5000 Euro for a CD Changer or 7000 Euro for a TV.

As long term customer of B&O I can suggest to change their strategy radically. Today, design, manufacturing qualtiy and life style are still very important for B&O customers but not enough anymore. They have to catch the technology. Adaptation of internet and wireless technologies is kind of must. If Samsung can offer a Blu Ray DVD player with 3d, smart apps and wi-fi, a High-end company like B&O must offer too.

Just as an example, I've been interested in Beosound 5 Encore. Unbelieable design, very nice touch but for me sorry to say that useless...If somebody wants to use Encore; has to build a server with special software etc... Why is all that? Why they can not offer kind of multimedia solution for Encore inclusive a software and make it "plug, install and play"? Why is that complicated?

Basicaly, I love B&O and I'm proudly owner of Bang & Olufsen products. Therefore,  I want to see the company again as strong as in the past...

I'm sure that you all got my point...

Beovision Avant 55 / BV 11-40 / BV7-40 / Beovision Avant / Beosound 9000 / Beosound 5 Encore / Beosystem 4500 / Beosystem 6500 / Beocenter 9000 / Beolab 5000 / Beolab 18 / Beolab 19 / Beolab 11 / Beolab 17 / 3 sets of Beolab 4000 / Beovox Red Line 60.2

True - but then the consumer electronics press has been blighted for decades by a need to qualify any review with a "value" judgement that many other specialists reviewers do not make.

Back in my "flat earth" days, we were driven mad by the likes of What HiFi etc etc reviewing anything above the SRP a Richer Sounds clearance item with a caveat about price.... odd really, as you don't see this highly subjective cost/value consideration (as much) in mags about cars, guitars, photography etc etc  when well made, high end items tend to be coveted (assuming they do actually perform) rather than the review ending with "its good, perhaps the best, but you can save £XXX if you buy a XXXX instead"

Reviews should be about performance, build quality, design reasons, changes in styling etc etc ..... potential buyers can then decide if it is worth their money.

Won't disagree with that. Although a passing reference to "value for money" could be added to the review(s), there is too much emphasis on B&O being mega-expensive and that influences the general perception of B&O.

Was at my dealers at lunch and a guy walks in to view the Beolit 12. He looked incredibly uncomfortable, much like me walking in to a Ferrari dealership. Looked like he shouldn't be in there and promptly walked straight out again.

On the other hand, out of curiosity I wandered into the Apple shop in the Metro Centre at Gateshead (the one time largest indoor shopping mall in Europe). They didn't have a BS8 and the only Beolit12 I saw was in it's box on a shelf. Hardly likely to have the large footfall drooling with desire!

(If anyone asks, I can now tell them I've visited an Apple store - wasn't in long, unlikely to return. It felt much like it must have felt to be a stranger in Stepford)Indifferent

Ban boring signatures!

They used to have a very good dock display, but as you say it's now just on a shelf. Asking the staff they have not the first clue about B&O or the Beolit!

Beosound Stage, Beovision 8-40, Beolit 20, Beosound Explore.

That's a little worrying. One thing that concerns me though is where are the other Beolit colours promised for end of Feb?
