Hi all, I've been noticing that the picture on the BV9 is wonderful, however when I watch blurays on the screen the picture has a grainy quality to it. I've googled the issue, but the discussion I've read about it was on kikinoko LCD screens, and the remedy was turning down edge enhancements and dynamic contrast. The BV9 has no such setting, only sharpness setting in te service menu. Does anybody else know about this and if so then do you know if this is as good as it gets watching blu ray on the BV9...?

The picture from blurays played on ps3 is much worse than from DVD or Sky on my BV5 although I assumed it was something to do with being connnected via SCART.  Maybe this is a characteristic of the PS3? (strange because I'd heard it was very good as a bluray player!)

Yes there is a huge difference between something being connected via SCART vs HDMI on this television.

Is there anybody at all that can shed light on this?? I can honestly say that I get a better (utterly AMAZING, in fact) picture on the BV9 watching prime time soaps which are broadcast in SD!

If you want a really good blu ray player look at the cambridge audio models from Richer Sounds.

I bought one a few months ago and it's superb. It's basically a rebadged Oppo - which isn't a bad thing . But cheaper and easier to buy.

651BD is the one I ended up buying.

The PQ & SQ are stunning , really impressive plus it's got all the bells & whistles BUT is remarkably easy to use.

The PS3 is  garbage tbh . I've got several and they're noisy and have a very grainy picture indeed in comparison.

Scart is NOT HD - use HDMI instead and you will love the picture.

And PS3 is NOT garbage as Bluray player.

Actually I'm afraid it is.

Try asking at a forum like AV forums or AVS where the technical knowledge of the posters is more apparent.

It's got a terribly grainy picture - I've tested it on several TV's and Projectors and my eye's don't lie.

On my Pioneer Kuro the picture is perfect.
No need to take a look at AV forums for this...

You need your eyes tested then.

If all blu rays players were the same , why would there be so many alternatives ?

Flappo, FYI:

Perhaps you could revise this so your next brash and opinionated post is at least grammatically correct.

Thanks.

After all your connections are perfect and you've got s great BD player, you may still find some movies grainy - this is just the way they're shot and produced..

I've got a 7-55 and a high end external Blu-Ray, but almost all of the US filmed 'box sets' we watch are grainy.  The newer Pixar stuff is the benchmark for amazing images in my opinion.

I'm posting actual helpful information ( several of the posters have thanked me for ) and all you can do is snipe at my grammar.

How pathetic...

If all this turns ugly , don't say I didn't warn you.

Ever seen Rambo : First Blood ?

Lee is quite correct . It's film grain.

Unfortunately the PS3 introduces it's own limitations into the mix.

It's a mediocre games playing machine and a half way decent first stop as a blu ray player - nothing more.

Tbh , my dear wonderful mac keyboard is the main reason I type so badly.

Have you seen that blinkin bloomin left hand side shift key ?

I'm from the uk but the thing has an accent key ( while the right hand side has a full button ) , obviously for our european pals !!!

:)

So much me for being an apple fanboy eh ?

Yeah, I thought so, that's a shame (obviously at the end of the day the picture is too sharp and it reveals this grainy quality, which mind you isn't overly prominent)! It would be nice if i could turn down the sharpness for when the BV9 is in BD mode and turn it back up for when it is in TV mode.
