I have one - its sits in between my BV12-65 and all the speakers in my lounge (BL18s, BL3s, BL19)
So all the equipment is B&O.
It can connect to WISA speakers, like the 18 and 19 - but i wired everything in, just because.
But i got one as part of my BV12-65 purchase, and as such it was never a conscious choice.
For those without a BV12, not sure how much is gained by getting a BS4.
There should be a BS5 at some stage from what i'm told, with more modern spec's (4K HDR, Atmos etc) - while i take these pointers from my dealer with a pinch of salt, apparently a 3rd party partner has been selected to provide the video guts of a potential BS5 type product, so the notion of a BS5 might have some legs.

Yes, 18s front, 3 rears....an excellent combination. The sub kicks in for TV+movies, not necessary for music.
My dealers guess was Oppo, but that wasnt based on any information.
And how a putative BS5 might play with non-B&O TV's is anyones guess - wit restrictions would be my expectation.
I've been using a BeoSystem 3 with a Samsung screen for years and the BS3 controls the screen's on/off flawlessly. The downside in my case is that an IR emitter is visible on the front of the screen where the IR receiver is. However, it seems that more and more screens and devices are becoming available with RCA IR ports available on the back of the screen. My projector and my Oppo BD player have such ports on the back. Also, the BeoSystems provide full B&O menu overlay even on non-B&O screens.
As much as I love B&O, I have a really hard time justifying paying 10x the price for a wall-mounted screen when most of today's screens are very minimalist in design and profile anyway. These aren't the bulky, ugly TVs from years ago. For perhaps just $1,000 for a non-B&O tv, I see this as easily disposable when it comes time for an upgrade or a repair. Especially when considering what the cost of a B&O repair service call would be.
I've been holding out from upgrading the BeoSystem 3 until a 4K BeoSystem 5 is available. To me, a BeoSystem 4 makes no sense when TVs now are 4K. BeoSystem 3s can be found very affordable on the second-hand market.
I think a beosystem 5 with all the bells would be the only logical step for B&O now. I'd love an LG 77" display, with my B&O control and speakers!

Absolutely!
The ability to have 'proper' 4K HDR with Dolby atmos, etc, support, with an up to date panel would be ideal!
Hi All,
I thought you may be interested in a different use case for the BeoSystem4.
I only started getting serious with B&O a couple of years ago with an Avant55 (MK1) and an A9 for my new house. After about 6months I wanted to expand on the possibilities of multi-room, and I had a home theatre to kit out (more of an extra lounge really), but I didn't want to spend a huge amount of money.
After speaking with a B&O dealer it became clear that the BeoSystem4 would integrate well and provide the following -
-drive / feed image to a 1080p projector (lack of 4k was fine as 1080p would be perfect for a home projector)
-it could provide 7.1 channels line-out to my existing Denon amplifier which could then drive my existing Mordaunt-Short satellite speakers (amp and speakers from previous house)
-provide a consistent user interface - menu overlays and remote control as my Avant
-provide HomeMedia interface for my DLNA media and freeview TV recorder (exactly the same as my Avant)
-attach a Blu-ray player controlled with PUC (exactly the same as my Avant)
-attach a Chromecast (exactly the same as my Avant)
-multiroom with my other NL products
This was a win-win for me, as I could re-use my existing gear saving me money, but I could easily upgrade to BeoLabs over time. It also provided an exact replica of the interface and use case as my Avant which was really important for my partner to be able to use it easily. After further research I decided it would be a great DIY project (I like to tinker...).
I purchased what I needed (120inch motorised screen, Epson 1080p projector, BeoSystem4, IR eye, BeoRemote One, cables from Steve @ sounds heavenly), and proceeded to install it all over a couple of weekends.
I was a fun project. We use it every week or so to watch a movie and it's a big hit with friends and family for movie nights at our house.
The only down-side encountered so far, is that the LAN system seems to be very slow compared to the one in the Avant. I can stream recorded TV files but not ripped Blu-rays from my DLNA server, whereas I can do this fine with the Avant. I assume the networking module in the Avant is a newer/faster spec. I emailed BeoCare about this a while ago but never got a response. For now I just stick to using the disks in the Blu-ray player. I will also add that I don't think that the BeoSystem4 has WISA as mentioned above.
A couple of photos below with the screen up and down (taken during the day so some sun is bleeding onto the screen). The BeoSystem4 was originally going to be behind a cupboard door with the amp and Blu-ray player, but I thought having some B&O aluminium bling on show would be nice 😊
Sorry for the long post, but I thought some might be interested.

elephant:Dion a fantastic setup. A poster advert for what I would love - I shall see if your vision will win over my wife tonight. Congratulations on the project - a great project.

Hi Elephant, thanks for the kind words. It was fun to setup and is even more fun to use.
Good luck winning over your wife!
Aussie Michael:Gday from the other side of the country. And thanks for a well considered post. Greatly appreciated. Something I don’t fully understand is why a BS4 and an AV receiver when they do the same job ? Is that so if you wanted to add BL speakers later ? But I gather from the post is that the main reason is for a consistent menu system (yeah?)

Hi Michael,
You are right about the amp and BS4 essentially doing the same thing (although the BS4 can't power passive speakers like I need it to in this setup). As you gathered the reason is a consistent user interface and future upgradability to BeoLabs.
The other benefit for me is that the theatre is part of the multiroom system. I can distribute the audio from the theatre to my other products. Also, if I select "join" on the remote control I can receive the audio from one of my other products. This is great for parties and functions when I want music over the whole house. I don't even need to turn on the projector/screen, just click "join".
As you gathered, I'm in Perth, but it was actually a discussion with the guys at the Richmond store that sparked the idea of this setup.
