HI,

I am trying to set up a Beovision 6 for my elderly relative. I think about 2006 so not sure it would have DTV integral then. I did email a shop & they implied it might/probably has but not enabled.

These B&O are very alien to me (I can set up pretty much anything tech)

When I next visit I would like to me more informed, I had a quick go but did not get too far.

It has DTV button but shows all the digital sources not channels or guide, I guess that's what they are.

TV setup it scans but did not find anything, this seems to be just analogue I assume.

I tried portable TV & that found all the channels OK so know they are there.

Is this likely to have DTV, if so how do I scan/set up the channels.

Is there an option to enable, Options did not seem to have anything like that but as I say was a little short on time then.

If not, is there a good option for freeview (No satelite) I think before they moved it was set up with Sky & the sat co-ax cables are still hanging around. This must have been connected via the scart I assume.

As no HDMI not sure best option.

Can the scart from a DTV tuner go into the TV, it goes into the master box which has 2 scart sockets.

The shop said probably needs analogue output, I guess he means via the co-ax but that must be a really bad idea (perhaps he meant scart). Can I not get an standard freeview box (as long as it has a scart!) and plug into one of the ones in the master controller box.

There is also the master controller with CD & I can see the two B&O OEM sockets & where they GO into the box OK.

Sorry bit vague, If I had more time I would have understood its layout a little better.

Thanks I/A

Hi

Your BV6-26 has DTV (probably), but is not HD. Henceforth, you need an external box/decoder. And because this (old) version of BV has no HDMI, you need to use the SCART plug (which is analog).

There's a possibility to use the DVI port with a HDMI to DVI converter, but it only works with a signal coming from a PC (not protected), not with TV broadcast.

If you upgrade your membership you can download the user manual from this site. All the Beo 4 remotes of a certain age have the DTV button so it doesn't necessarily mean it is fitted in the TV.

Press MENU to bring up the TV SETUP menu and press up/down arrow to highlight OPTIONS.

Press GO to bring up the OPTIONS menu, and press up/down arrow to highlight TUNER SETUP.

Press GO to bring up the TUNER SETUP menu,

TV TUNER is already highlighted.

It will show TV TUNER and DVB if the DVB-T tuner is fitted.

Press EXIT to leave all menus without saving

My BV6 26 uses a Freeview box. With this model a dealer has to programme the TV to use a particular Freeview box or other set top box. If buying second hand your best bet is to look at which boxes have already been loaded into the TV software  if you want to use the Beo4 with an IR blaster on the STB, or alternatively just use the Freeview box remote. You will need a Scart connection, so a second hand box matching one of boxes already in the TV menus is the way to go.

Hi,

Many thanks for all your information,

Now mostly understand the situation.

I do appreciate that nothing will be HD unless using the DVI/HDMI trick mentioned above but will no go down that route.

They have just installed plusnet & can add YouView TV box which I think is a good idea.

So think either a freeview box using scart.

My preference is the YouView (which does have a scart). I assume has all non-HD channels also.

However as new this will have to be added to the TV via an engineer I assume.

Is this something they can always do or is there potential for some devices simply not to be recognized.

It seems odd that this has to be an engineer install (unless that it to get full integration/remote etc) I would have thought a Scart source is the same for signal no matter what.

I would not put too much into this myself but they are really familiar with the TV & I have not listened but told the sound via the CD & TV is extremely good and inclined to believe knowing the quality of the B&O stuff. So alternative would be a new TV & music system. (other brands)

Thanks again.

Any device (set-top box etc) which has a scart output will work with your Beovision as long as you control it with its own remote. It is only if you wish to use the Beo4 remote to control the box (via a STB i-r control lead) that you would need matching software on the Beovision.

Even if the exact STB is not listed in the STB controller list, a similar model may be, which would give some control functions at least, such as switching on and off.  I think You View Boxes may be made by Humax, so worth checking if similar i-r codes will work.

Best wishes

Neil
