The software changes were usually only to make subtle alterations to operations. The upc modules are interchangeable, but the cd mech and decoder panels were different in the early versions of the '9000 and not interchangeable with later versions. You can recognise the early version cd decoder,as it has twin Dac's.
I have been able to retro fit the later cd components into an earlier version Beocenter, but it needed some re-working of wiring etc.
Which boards do you plan to swap?
Nick
Hi! Nick
Tanks for your reply.
My ver. is the old with two Dac's/TDA1540P.
I have already repaired the CD-drive and decoder boards, div. elec. you know,
but have still troubles on or around the systemcontrol board 20, can't control the tape deck at all
it is locked in play forward but no take up/don't rotate, have you seen similar symptoms earlier?
there are "traffic" on the the 3 lines from the processor to the 2 cd4094's who are in the interface
to tape control etc. it did not help to change those IC's. May be i a have a problem in the processor-rom?
I have the possibility to buy a 9000'er, first of all for spare parts, that's the reason why i asked for differences, before i buy it, if i can't fix my own.
Tank's from Denmark

I've never seen this problem, but I suspect that it might be mechanical rather than to do with the processor.
Buying a "donor" unit could be useful as you will have both another tape mechanism, and a processor to try, both of which should be direct fit.
Have you checked the various supplies on the main tape pcb?
The little motor that drives the auto reverse tape head mech can cause odd problems too.
Hi Nick, i will receive the " doner" next week, i want to keep you informed, maybe ask new questions !
Just to tell that my 9000 project has been completed.
After swapping the processor board from my "donor", every thing works perfect.
I can't go into detail about the fault on the board, because it's too complicated, i can't repair it.
Thanks again because you gave me the opportunity to complete the project.
