Hi there

Wonder if anyone could help me?

I have a Beogram 9500 turntable which worked beautifully . I have since emigrated to Australia and brought it with me via a shipping container.

I've changed the plug over to an Australian one, however it now does not function properly.

The arm just goes back and forwards continuously (up to the record and back) whenever it is plugged in.

If I try to play a record , the arm goes onto the record but the just scrapes back to it original position.

Has the journey ruined it or can I fix it?

Please help as I love playing my vinyl on it.

Many thanks

Hi,

does the deck have the suitable voltage? Hopefully yes. So look unter the plate and lift the black plastic sheet. There is a big gear with a white bar. And a double solenoid which activates the big gear (tone arm movement) by pushing the white bar in direction of the platter spindle, and the smaller gear (with a smaller white bar) for the lift function. Normally everything can be moved easily by hand.

Thank you for your reply.

Everything seems to be in the right place, but it's still doing the same.

Have checked the voltage and that's the same.

Am I doing something wrong?

Yes, your deck looks ok. When you power up your deck, does the solenoid react without touching a button? (it should not)

When I plug in the player with the plate off the mechanism starts and goes round but the arm does not move.

However, if I press onto the black centre (as if a record was there)  the arm starts to move into the play beginning position (but does not lower)  and then hoes back again.  This happens until I release the black centre when it just goes back to turning.

... but the arm does not move.

that is ok, because it's a safety function, if someone is starting the player remotely without a record on. But it shouldn't start at all. I was talking about the solenoid. Does it engage the white bar, when pluging in?

The solenoid doesn't move at all, not does the white bar.

The turntable just spins.

I think, you observed not hard enough Wink, What does it look like, when you take off the subplatter and belt? Is it possible to post a video, showing the state of no power and then plugging in?

I will post a link to a video of my turntable, what it should look like...

Thank you so much for your patience with me.

I have taken 2 videos and uploaded them to YouTube (the first time I've done that lol)

I hope the show everything OK.

The black piece seems to move but the little spindle that the elastic band goes round continually spins.

YES! This shows the moment you plug it in, right? Well mechanically, everything seems to be ok. But the fault will be transistor TR4 or the controller itself.

Oh dear.

That sounds difficult or expensive :-(
