I used to be able to control my beomaster 5500 with my master control panel but now it doesn't respond. When the beomaster is plugged in and I insert batteries into the control panel, the control panel displays "STD BY" and "SET CLOCK" and the buttons are unresponsive. If the beomaster is not plugged in and I insert batteries into the control panel the display reads "NO CONTACT". Either way the display on the control panel will not turn off until I remove the batteries. Is my control panel shot?

Check for stuck buttons on the MCP.

Just checked and no buttons appear to be stuck.

As the display doesn't automatically drop out after  a few seconds,it does appear that the unit is sending continuously? The keyboards can become conductive, and the actual contacts get flattened with use too.The buttons may still, as you say, look ok.

It seems that you will indeed have to strip the panel down to investigate.

The panel sends and receives data, and when no data is returned from the Beomaster,"no contact" is displayed.

Does a light blink on the Beomaster when you press a button on the panel?

There are no blinking lights on the beomaster. I also used my cell phone camera to observe the IR LED'S on the control panel and noticed that when I press a button they will not light up. Is it supposed to communicate with the beomaster with IR? I'll try taking it apart and I'll see if I can find anything wrong with the buttons.

If using an iPhone camera, use the forward facing 'selfie' camera rather than then main one.  I find that my main iPhone camera does not detect IR.
