hello everyone, I’m new to the forum and the whole deal with turntables in general, so I need some advice. I ound this turntable Beogram 5500 almost for free and was glad to see it still reacts to buttons and connected to an amplifier and the speakers it sends some sound. Unfortunately, even though the buttons are a bit temperamental, the main problem is that the tonearm isn’t moving. I brought the turntable to a repaire service and they said they’d fix it but it’d cost about a 100. So my question is is it worth it?
I love music, and always wished to have a turntable, and even though it’s very little, I already put over 60 pounds in this whole deal, so on one hand am thinking that might as well spend another 100 to get it fixed so I could actually start listening. However, what if because it’s old, it’s just gonna stop working soon, or something else will not be working properly, and i’ll Just have wasted almost 200 for something that won’t last me long.
Any opinion will be appreciated, thanks!
Probably a drive string problem. You will need to open the deck up and re-attach it. Normally, a small hook has broken off and will need to be replaced with a suitable bolt and then re mount the string.
Search the forum as many people have had the same problem.
If that is the problem then it can be fixed in less than an hour.
