Looks like our friends in Struer had a good financial year.

Annual Report:

Also.. Effective 1st June 2018 the BeoPlay brand is fully integrated into, again, one single brandname: Bang & Olufsen.

Great news on the results. I also notice this from the PDF:

  • Strengthen internal eCom capabilities

  • Introduce new eCom platform in Spring 2019

Which implies, to me, that the migration of BeoPlay to B&O will mean that, by next year, B&O will sell far more products online.

Overall, a very positive report.  Good to see B&O back in profit and on target to continue growth.

Kind regards, Steve.

A good financial year because costs were cut ?

Stores were closed?

Agency arrangements were made ? (Ie new agency for Australia)

TV division was axed

I do hope continued success for the company.

Also of interest

So does the mention of audio mean no video ?

Does the second diagram mean it’s going from product expertise to lifestyle ? Or just that they think that luxury lifestyle is more “sophisticated” than a product ?

Re opening stores ?

This would be nice.

“Expand the sound for video use case through collaboration with leading technology partners” coupled with a picture of the Eclipse says it all.

Is there consolation in the implication that it collaboration with partnerS is more than just LG OLED ???

"Become the most desired brand..."

By definition, you desire what you don't have. Once you have it, the desire is gone.

Does this means more expensive products, so that less people can have them and keep the desire high? How can this approach leverage profits?

I liked what I read.

By summer next year we'll see how the execution of the vision & strategy plays out.

I might return to Bang & Olufsen audio if things look okay.

As for growth, I can understand the growth in China. People are getting wealthier and want to show it. I was a bit surprised by growth in the States – it seems Play has found its target group. I'm not surprised that growth in Europe has been flat, but it's a positive that there hasn't been a decline despite the troubles at B&O.

I'm hoping for interesting, innovative new products – other than new colours! That said, the wireless earset is now available in black Smile

B&O product history since 1991: Ridiculously long to list in a signature.

Overall looking good!

51% of the revenue was made in Europe, but 0% growth in Europe...

I find these few lines the most interesting:

"Bang & Olufsen’s future product strategy will result in a product portfolio with fewer launches and higher anticipated sales volumes per launch"

One can only hope that this means that they will actually go back to making products that last a little longer than they have done lately. Going to be interesting to see how they would do that considering the speed of innovation in the business.

They already did that before... the era of the BeoSound Ouverture, BeoSound 9000, (original) Avant, BL6000 & BL8000.. after the launch of these product relatively no new products were released for a couple of years...

Well - rather:

Portable (bluetooth speakers, headphones)

Moveable (multiroom BeoSounds)

Stationary (multiroom BeoSound, BV - and what comes next - plus speakers)

I find it good, that they cleared up the mess of having NL/BeoSound products in the BeoPlay range along with the portable products.

Interesting and enlightening plan there.

There seems to be a focus and a direction strategically now. The emphasis on collaborations was positive too.

Solid contribution from the TV business too, can’t see that being cut anytime soon. And positive acknowledgement over UX/UI consistency - will we see B&O skinned webOS TV interface soon? And curtains?

All in all, very encouraging. I’ll go over the financials when I have a minute!

As a bit of a thicky - If it's all beer and skittles why have the Top Brass cashed in and naffed off?

Ban boring signatures!

Now, now Puncher!

Could you upload a screenshot of the directors’ deals? I can only see holdings for 2015/16. Am on mobile so somewhat cumbersome.

Trebbles all round if you can!

Sorry Puncher, but that's a very negative typically cynical British view on business. That management are only at a company to a) look after themselves, b) make sure they are financially setup for life and c) quick to jump ship when things go pear-shaped.

I find it almost hilarious to read on the report:

"Bang & Olufsen aspires to become the most desired audio brand in the world".

Er.. where are the audio systems? Look at the website, you'll see.. BeoSound Core. Is that supposed to be an audio masterpiece? There are now almost 10 different types of earphones/headphones, and ironically, none of the BeoVisions and BeoSounds has connections for them. And no Bluetooth transmitters either.

And BeoSound Shape must be the most expensive mono sound system in the universe..

Sorry but they still have to convince me to buy anything in the current range, especially now that 75% of the products under the B&O name will be made in China.

Why apologise? The CEO has been 2 years, the CIO less than a year, and the CFO just resigned. Just because a comment is a bit cynical, doesn't mean it's not true. And just because some take a Pollyanna view, doesn't mean they are right.

Sparkle Tech own somewhat less than 20% of B&O and it is owned 100% by Qi Jianhong. Sparkle Corporation own the rights to all B&O distribution in PRC. The manufacturing is owned by Chinese companies. Rest assured Qi Jianhong is one of B&Os "Gang of Four", and that he knows how to make money. B&O could do more just in China and the cities rich Chinese inhabit than they have ever done worldwide.

Them buying back shares means something.

But on another note, I would love to see the breakdown of where these 1000 employees actually work and what they do.
