Hi all, I've just purchased a second hand beolab 2000 (type 1642 serial year 18x) from ebay which appears to have a problem and I am evaluating whether to send back to seller... and as soon as the power is connected there is an audible mains hum/noise coming from the back - where the transformer is, so I am assuming this is the problem. The speaker works, but the hum is continually there, is distracting/ quite loud, and is definitely not from the front speakers. I've tried a different power outlet in the house, and even different figure 8 lead - no difference. It happens when the masterlink is connected and also without. Does anyone know of this problem, whether this is fixable / worth fixing given they sell for around £50-£60 second hand?

Many thanks for the advice.

It’s a long shot, but have you tried inserting the figure-of-eight mains plug the other way around?

After all, one side of the plug will be “live” and the other “neutral”.

I’m not optimistic, but it’s free and worth a try.
