I have an NL/ML converter in my system. I recently attached a Bluetooth receiver to the audio inputs of the NL/ML converter.
In the NL side I have a Beosystem 4. In its Setup I was able to see that the "Line In" source was already assigned to the NL/ML converter. I just had to choose a button on the remote. I chose A.Mem. Again this button choice was made within the Beosystem 4 setup source selection. This all works as I am now able to play music from my phone to the Beosystem 4.
On the ML side of the converter I have a Beolab 3500 and a Beosystem 2500. I can play CDs and radio from the 2500 to either the Beolab 3500 or the Beosystem 4.
Now for what's NOT working.
On the Beolab 3500 I can play CDs and radio from the 2500 but I'm unable to play music from my phone through the Bluetooth receiver attached to the audio jacks on the NL/ML converter.
I've a attched a pdf with my screenshots of my NL/ML config but I don't know what to reconfigure.
Any thoughts?
Thanks
Hi
If you have a combination of NL and ML all the Masterlink audio sources are “locked “ on the Masterlink side that means if you choose RADIO, CD, A.TAPE(a.mem) PHONO(n.radio) ore A.TAPE2(n.radio) on any Masterlink devise it will always start your audiomaster(BS2500) causing an conflict if you have the same source on the NL side like A.MEM.....
I hope my explanation makes a little sense??
Søren
You have set the converter as v. Master ml role. This gives you the option to assign any nl source to v. Sources on ml. Your current configuration of sources visible on ml is blank. Assign sources you would like to access on ml there. Remember to set bc2500 to a. Opt 2.
Hope this helps
Thanks Soren and Kromer.
To assign a NL source to the ML side I would do that on the Sources Visible on ML page of the NL/ML Configuration correct?
Kromer: Where do I set the bc2500 to a. Opt 2. (What is that for?) Thanks
HI,
I tried adding the source PC on the Sources visible on ML. I selected the top "Beolink Converter NL/ML" as its listed twice on the pull down list. as my options were the two "Beolink Converter NL/ML" options followed by Beosystem 4. And selected NL source as "Line IN" . I also modified the screen IR Mapping likewise for PC.
Unfortunately when I sent the PC IR command (I added it to a BEO4) to the BL3500 it wouldn't even Power Up. CD and Radio IR commands fire up the BL3500.
As a side note I'm not sure whether the BL3500 is a BL3500 or an LCS9000 as it's comm cable is feed into a MCL/ML converter.
Depending on the age of your BL3500 it would not understand the command “PC”
For testing you can try TV, V.MEM, DTV or DVD they are “old” command that all BL3500 understand, i have a list somewhere with the commands that should also work...... I can try to find it later.
Soren,
Thanks for the info. I do know TV works. Question if you look at the IR mappings of my system's NL/ML configuration (in the original attachment) the only open IR commands that are empty are: DTV2, DVD2, Camera, V.Aux2 and PC.
Am I limited to using only those empty commands? I will try those to see if the BL3500 accepts any of those commands.
DTV2 and DVD2 is equal to the old commands V.AUX and V.TAPE2 and should work
V.AUX2 is the same as the command DOORCAM and I don’t think that would work on BL3500 if it an older model...
Søren,
DVD2 did work to activate the BL3500. The BL3500 displayed V.Tape2.
Of the unused IR commands in my system DTV2, Camera, V.Aux2 and PC all failed to activate the BL3500.
At least the DVD2 worked so I think I have a path to pursue.
Thanks for your help. I will post further developments.
Pat
Kromer,
What is a. Opt 2 on the 2500? Is that configuring the Beosystem 2500 what IR inputs to accept? Or is this a setting in the NL/ML Converter?
Thanks,
Option 0= Ir receiver disabled used when connected to a Beovision with speakers also connected to the BV
Option 1 = receives only audio command, normally used when stand alone or when speakers are connected directly to audiomaster (pressing AV before video commands will bring the sound from BV to BS2500)
Option 2= receives both audio and video commands, and will bring the Sound from BV to the speakers connected to BS2500.... Note that BV then have to be in option 0 otherwise you will get double commands.......pressing eg 1 will result in BV shift to channel 11.
I tried changing my NL/ML configuration. On the Sources visible on ML I modified the DVD2 line selecting the top BeoLink Converter NL/M ( don't know why there are two in the drop down list followed by the Beosystem 4) for the NL Product Name and "Line In" as the NL Source.
I used the same selection in the IR Mapping configuration page. I clicked save on both config screens after making changes.
Unfortunately it didn't work. I had the music from my phone playing through the Beosystem 4 and when giving the DVD2 command the BL3500 activated but no sound was available.
I might try playing around with the second BeoLink Converter NL/M selection in the drop down list. We'll see what happens. Thanks for the IR Option explanation for the beosystem 2500.
Thanks for all your help.
I saw in another post you have to reboot the NL/ML converter after you change settings. That makes sense if it has to reread the xml file that you just modified and only does this on a power up.
I went ahead and made the settings change as before and unplugged, waited 10 sec then plugged the Converter in. Still couldn't get the BL3500 (confirmed it is a BL3500 mk.1) to play.
I tried again but changed the NL Source value to A.Mem for DVD2 and that didn't work either.
Hello.
Maybe something here might help.
Our systems are predominantly master link, so I needed to send back BLC LINE IN audio to master link. It took weeks to work this out which included an upgrade and some support from B&O and lots of config changes.
We have a BS9000 set as audio master, it had to be upgraded to work. Our BV7 is set to Video Master and is in the same room as the BS900.We also have a NL Horizon which is the primary NL. BLC is Secondary. Plus rooms with Beolink Active etc.
So the BLC is set as ML enabled Audio Slave, As a result Sources visible on ML are greyed out, but they can be IR Mapped. Steps follow.
Restart all connected systems. Now, here the order is important as Audio Master and Video Master must see the ML broadcast from the BLC. It lasts either 12sec or 1.2mins, something stupidly odd. Otherwise the new ML command will be partly invisible. Some ML speakers may not see it at all f they are not at the correct software level.
Then choose the ML command on your Beo4 and the LINE IN attached equipment will be pipe music back thru the ML network.
Hope something in here assists.
Beoaus.
I appreciate you responding and it sounds like you have much, much more NL/ML Converter configuring.
In the first post I attached screenshots of my NL/ML Converter configuration in an Acrobat attachment.
DVD2 command hasn't been programmed in the NL/ML Converter and it works with the BL3500. It is currently set to "Empty" in both the Sources visible to ML and in the IR Mapping.
If I understand your NL/ML configuration (BLC) you have set the BLC as ML enabled (Mine too) and ML role as Audio Slave. (Mine is set as V Master)
In my configuration DVD2 is a Source visible on ML (Not greyed out) and its configuration for NL Product Name is "Empty". In the IR Mappings DVD2 is configured as "Empty".
I just noticed on the Configuration Settings tab In the Network LInk block it lists:
Friendly Name: Beolink Converter NL/ML
Connect to (Primary): Beolink Converter NL/ML
Connect to (Secondary): Beolink Converter NL/ML
Is Primary the NL side (Beosystem 4) and Secondary as ML side (BL3500 and Beocenter 2500)?
In my system when I try to select a NL Product Name I get 3 choices in the drop down list:
Beolink Converter NL/ML (Is this the Primary)
Beolink Converter NL/ML (and this the Secondary?)
Beosystem 4
When I have changed the DVD2 settings I have been selecting the first/top Beolink Converter NL/ML. Should I be using the second Beolink Converter NL/ML option?
Thanks for reading.
Ok. Some quick details.
Do you see LINE IN as a NL Source in IR mapping? Maybe A.MEM (shown in your PDF) or another free ML command could be assigned to LINE IN. I would also rename A,MEM or other in "Experience mapped to NL" to Bluetooth.
BTW...
Do you have 2 BLC's. if so they should be named differently. Possibly even turn one off.
Are you familiar with the BLC System log, in particular searching for the BeoNetRemote command? The logs are quite helpful.
HI Again
I just looked at your attachment..... you are not on the latest software version!! It should be 1.4.3 19864... dec 11 2015, also if you look under “configuration” “settings” you can choose “enable line-in sence”
I am not using the line in so I have never tested it on my system🤔
Also do you have a ir Receiver connected to your NL/ML converter?? If not the ir mapping is irrelevant.
what components does your system consist of ? Both Netlink and Masterlink😊
I've attached my B&O Cabling diagram. It shows what components I have and how they are connected.
I don't have an ir Receiver attached to the NL/ML Converter. The "enable line-in sense" is under the power link section so I'm not sure it applies as it seems to be referencing PowerLink as opposed to the local "Line In" source.
I don't understand why I don't have the latest software for the NL/ML Converter as I have automatic update enabled (see page 7 of original attachment) and I have been accessing the internet from the router that the NL/ML is connected too. Not sure how to force an update. On the B&O support page for the NL/ML Converter there is no software download.
Thanks, I do appreciate your help.
Beoaus,
Please see the B&O Cabling attachment in the previous post as it shows my components and how they are interwired.
When I tried mapping DVD2 I was able to select "Line In" as the NL source. Again I had selected the top Beolink Converter which may have been the wrong choice as it may have been primary instead of secondary. I will try secondary.
Unfortunately I'm not experienced with the log but now I have something to look for in them. Thanks.
I will probably rename A.Mem once I get everything working as the name shouldn't matter just yet, should it ? Note: When giving the A.Mem command to the BL3500 it displays A Tape. and "Fires Up" the Beosystem 2500.
When setting up the Beosystem 4 "Line In" it had been auto mapped to the NL/ML "Line In". I didn't have to make any change for this. In the "Line In" setup of the Beosystem 4 there is a spot where you choose a button to activate this source. I chose A.Mem since it was a button on the BEO4 I wasn't using. When A.Mem is pressed on the BEO4 in the Living Room the Beosystem 4 "Fires Up" and I can play music from my phone. It works great.
Thanks, I appreciate your help
I have tried setting DVD2 to the second Beolink Converter NL/ML
Using this second Beolink Converter NL/ML I modified DVD2 in Sources available in ML and IR Mapping and although I could set both to Line In It didn't work. I tried using just modifying DVD2 in Sources available to ML and leaving it "Empty" in the IR mapping section. That didn't work. So I did just the opposite by only configuring DVD2 in the IR Mapping. That didn't work either. After each modification I would reboot the NL/ML Converter by unplugging it, wait 10sec then plug it back in.
To test I would play the phone thru the Beosystem 4 and once it was playing I would go to the Beolab 3500 and send it the DVD2 IR command from my BEO4 remote. The BL3500 would activate but no music, just static.
I just wish I knew what I was doing.
Update: I noticed my BL3500 is on Software Version 1.1 if that makes a difference.
1. as Soren reported you do not have the latest sw version
2. on the 6th screen in your PDF a Beolink Converter NL/ML is identified as "0000.0000000.000000". Remove this item, it could corrupt your setup.
As Soren mentioned the software needs updating. A B&O service centre can do this as the call home feature will not longer update the BLC. Perhaps, at the same time ask service or your regional B&O tech if other ML equipment needs an update. You could ask the tech how they would set it up, for what its worth?
In my case the update to the BS9000 and BLC made my configuration stable.
Separately and FYI, the log shows the registration of the BLC to B&O and its seems the ML equipment in use. If the BLC does not register it wont work properly.
The BLC is rather complex.
pjk561: I've attached my B&O Cabling diagram. It shows what components I have and how they are connected.
Why use the ML/MCL converter? ML connect the BL3500 parallel with the T1612 to the BLC.
Note:
1. making changes in the connected cables, then unplug everything from the mains. Plug the PL/Datalink/ML cables. Re-plug the mains. But re-plug the T1612 as last device. This is essential!
2. I doubt the BS2500 and MCL protocols do understands the commands such as DVD and PC. So if you want to use commands use the good old V.Tape, V.Tape2 or V.Aux
Thank You for your suggestions.
1) The ML side of the NL/ML has morphed over 20 years. The ML/MCM converter was installed 20 years ago along with the Beosystem 2500 and BeoLab 3500. At that time I also had an AV7000. 4 years ago I had B&O install the Beosystem 4 with the NL/ML Converter and I believe the T1612 was installed at that time. This was installed by the local B&O shop which has gone the wayside. Everything has worked without issue, except that the NL/ML converter hasn't updated itself, as just noticed. Unfortunately the Beolab3500 isn't wired with Masterlink cabling and to replace the wiring requires a substantial bit of crawl space work.
Essentially I was just trying to install a $25 adapter and this has gone way over my head. Originally I was going to plug the adapter to the line In of the Beosystem 4 but that didn't work since its Line In had been mapped to the Line In of the NL/ML converter. So I plugged in the adapter there. Since it works easily with the Beosystem 4 I thought wouldn't it be nice to work with the BeoLab 3500 and was hoping for a quick cheep simple solution. The Master Bedroom is just off the Dining Room/Living Room. So this modification isn't a high priority just a nice to have.
2) I believe the DVD2 ir command is the same as the V.Tape2. The Beolab3500 activated with the DVD2 command. The Beolab3500 display read V.Tape2 and it also woke up the Beosystem2500 but I did initially see the Beolab 3500 display "LOAD".
3)I think you mentioned the000.000000.000000000 as seen below. What do I replace it with? Perhaps I should swap it with the one below it or match it to the one below?
I do appreciate your help.
Update I'm having difficulty pasting an image into this post. It shows up in the Compose tab but not in the preview and final posting. The image is the one you mentioned in your post on page 6 on my NLML configuration showing the different NL Products.
1.
pjk561:Essentially I was just trying to install a $25 adapter and this has gone way over my head.
The BS2500 has 2 PL connectors. How is the third PL cable connected?
2. Okay, if you gave the command DVD2 to the BL3500 and you get a response "LOAD", then the MCL/ML side seem te be working. The problem seems to be in the strain BS2500-T1612-BLC.
3. You only have one BLC? Correct? But your configuration tab shows two! And the first has no identification. This can/will be the source of trouble. If you only have 1 BLC; choose the line with the zero's ID BLC and click the Remove button.
Carolpa:
I do only have a single BLC in the network. I finally figured out what BLC stood for (B&O Link Converter).
I did go ahead and delete the invalid NL product. I couldn't edit it, so as you suggested I just deleted it and then rebooted the BLC. I've detected no new abnormalities after deleting the invalid entry. I did try to get the BLC to update but it may have been to soon. Will try tomorrow again.
Off the BS2500 I have 2 PL connections. One Powerlink cable is a Y connector with one end going to the ML/MCL converter and the other end going to the T1612 Converter. The second Powerlink cable from the BS2500 feeds the two Beolab 4000s.
I do get the feeling if I want to access the BLC "Line IN" on the ML side I will probably have to update the software in the Beolab 3500 / BS2500 and possible the ML/MCL converter as has been suggested.
I tried examining the logs but they are a little confusing as to differentiate between boots. I will reboot the BLC tomorrow and then see what the logs have to say.
A thing that I think is a little strange is that you get the LOAD message, that is not a message that your BL3500 comes up with by it self?? B&O Products like CD players, record players, tape recorders and DVD players send that signal through the link system and then it would be shown on connected equipment like Beovision and eg BL3500, that means that you got the signal from somewhere?? And that is not from the line in!!!
I think your BS2500 should understand the command DVD... at least my BM7000 that is about the same age does.... if your BS2500 is in option 1 and you press “AV DVD” the sound should come through your Beolab 4000

I think the DVD2 IR command to the BL3500 is being processed as V.Tape2 on both the BL3500 and BS2500 with the BS2500 causing the momentary display of "LOAD". Even though the IR was mapped in the NL/ML as being its "LIne In". This is why I will probably need to have both the BL3500 and BS2500 updated if I ever want the ML side to utilize the "Line In" of the NL/ML converter.
Perhaps trying the BLC in A.Slave mode may be worth a test?

No... I would say the command given to the BS2500 or BL3500 does not reach the BLC
I would do something like this….
in the green box it should read BS2500
Carolpa, Thanks for your input. It makes sense.
Carolpa: beoaus:Perhaps trying the BLC in A.Slave mode may be worth a test? won’t work for sure. A.Slave only give you ML audio in a NL environment.

Generally I would agree. Oddly it worked.
Though its not described well, perhaps some information can be seen in the manual.
