Hi Guy's                                          BEOSYSTEM 2500/BEOLAB2500

I have just bought this unit, under not working condition, when you turn the power on, the lights comes up and CD about to spins and stops! none of them are functioning.

I was told the CD belt must have snapped, only the cd console both side lights are on, both sides of the active speakers RED lights are on. rest of them are Completely dead!

Even glass doors are force to open and close, sometimes when power on, it is like something running noise behind the cd console! if turn off and on then the noise stops!

No FM stations, No tape runs, none of the control pads are functioning?

If I may wonder, once the CD belts snaps, will it stops other functions too, not even responding with BEO4 controller?

Guy's please help me, I am also an enthusiastic person who is willing to do hands DIY's.

I Guess you're f*cked.

throw this unit out, to much wrong/defective with it.

The cd has no belt, the laser is gone, need replacement

The door mechanisme is shot, very hard to replace

the tunerbourd is gonsky, need replacement

The tapebelt has probebly turned to gue, needs replacement and a very good cleaning

The speaker standby resistors are burnt, the least of your worries..

sorry, no good news for you

Check power supply voltages.

There is no belt in the CD drive - but there is one for opening and closing of the clamper.
The CD drive will most likely need a new laser, that's very common.
Depending on the type of drive fitted in your machine, it's either not particularly
expensive, but a little fiddly (straight line laser path) - or more or less impossible to obtain a working laser (curved laser path).

The tapedrive will need a new belt (available but not the easiest thing to replace) and a good cleaning and fresh lubrication, to the reel table spindles as a minimum.

The door mech, - if still intact, doors on tracks, wires running correctly, will need a new belt too (also available).
Sometimes, if the doors were jammed or stuck, an electronic repair is needed to the motor driver circuit (or a replacement PCB and/or motor).

The speakers not powering up could be caused by a problem in the main unit.
You can diagnose eventual faults here, when the main unit is working.

The power supply voltages are the regulated DC outputs from the regulators.
There's quite a few.
The correct voltages are found in in the schematics in the servicemanual.
Put a DC voltmeter to the regulated voltages and compare to the manual.
Put a scope across the filter capacitors and check that the amount of ripple isn't excessive.
Check also for cracked solder joints, particularly at connectors, at the larger regulators and at the power supply filter capacitors.

Rectifiers are on module 15, regulators on modules 12 and 15 (and a little something on module 6 for the light and motor control).

All very basic and often the first points to check when diagnosing units with problems in several areas.

Hi Martin,

Thanks for your update, I was completely ripped-off by an old man pretended to be a gentleman.

i did changed the tape belt, but as soon as it powered up, not even pressed the selector, it runs FF, turn off turn on power, it does the same,

The most annoying, there are NO display on the control panel,

No, buttons are light up, no function at all, only a Green and red light stand by.

Is there any way, I could sell only the active speakers separately,

Please I do appreciate,  your big advice>

Cheers

Nick

Sorry to hear you were ripped off! On the plus side, if the Beolabs are functional they can be used and sold separately :)
