What Hifi were pretty convinced by the system in the Ford Fiesta https://www.whathifi.com/features/bo-play-sound-system-ford-fiesta-review

" a no brainer" to go for it

I have no doubt it will be better than stock if it's a optional extra, my gripe is that it isn't B&O.

If you read the report it says "We spend some time with both the Fiesta’s standard set-up and the B&O Play Sound system and we have to say we were impressed with both"

as I said when it was launched I work for Ford and had the opportunity to talk to a Harman engineer at an internal presentation and there were representatives from Beoplay there too. He explained how the auto systems are hyper real to go with the environment so it's probably better the system is developed by people used to the different requirements. For example the stereo separation is exaggerated.

All good stuff - If someone can tell me what B&O's involvement was beyond supplying the artwork for the logo I'd be most interested to hear about it.

I spoke with a Designer and he was from B&O.

I'd imagine there were B&O marketing people there too, their presence doesn't mean that B&O were in any way involved in the engineering of the audio system.

The "Breitling" timepiece in a Bentley is made by an automotive supplier as it's more suited to a car than a watch.

This didn't seem to be a consideration when B&O were doing audio systems for Aston Martin!

Genuine B&O sound systems were fitted to various Aston Martins, Audis etc. At that time there was no feeling that it was better to leave it up to an Automotive manufacturer because they knew better.

Here B&O are licensing their logo to be put on someone else's audio system - not  because someone else knows better but because licensing is easy money.

Edit : after re-reading old threds it maybe that Harmon actually own the B&O brand for automotive audio in which case I wonder if b&o actually earn anything from the Ford inclusions!

Does anyone have a better handle on the relationship with Harmon?

Edit Edit : according to THIS article, Harman bought it for $145m plus at least $1.8m per yr license fee for 20 years.

My favourite bit of the article is where they say the firm is not planning on expanding Bang & Olufsen’s reach by moving down a notch on the market.Laughing
