Hey all, I’m buying a new flat which has some built-in ceiling speakers. They have phono connections in the wall so I’m thinking my Beovision Eclipse could use them in my surround sound setup I have with 4 x BL18s and a BL19. Sound do-able in principle if I get a powerlink to phono cable?

BeoVision Eclipse 55”, Beolab 18s, Beolab 19s, Beosound 1, Beoplay P2, H3, BeoRemote One IR, BeoRemote One BT, Beoplay S8, Beosound Essence MkII, BeoTime

The speakers must be powered, or you need a power amp between your Eclipse and the wall phone connections.

A Beolink Passive or MCL2P will do the trick, as long as the speakers are indeed passive.

EDIT: One of these: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BANG-AND-OLUFSEN-Beolink-Passive-amp-1657-Amplifier/163235691729?hash=item26019afcd1:g:tP8AAOSwLEVbjFx-

My dealer has said a BeoAmp2 should do the job? Seems such an expensive way of doing it! One is needed for each pair of speakers and they’re like £600 each! Sad

I would simply buy a second hand Beolink Passive and have a play - at least then you will find out if the ceiling speakers actually work, and with what sound quality.  I am sure that our sponsor Steve at Sounds Heavenly will help you out with appropriate cabling for your setup.

The BeoAmp sounds like overkill, unless the ceiling speakers are highly rated (both power and sound quality).

Definitely not worth getting a major amp - I was just wanting the to support my B&O setup and allow me to pump music into the bathroom - seeing as they’re there!

hi Chris,

If RCA/phono connections have been used then there is every chance that an amp is already in place, as these connections are usually (but not always!) used before the power amplifier in an audio system.  You are welcome to try this RJ45 Powerlink to twin phono cable from the Eclipse TV to the sockets (if the amp is in place then you will get sound, if not then it won't do anything) - you are welcome to return the cable for a refund if you can't get the speakers working:-

Kind regards, Steve.

Do you know what speakers have been installed? We have found that big developers use inexpensive contractor 6” loudspeakers and these are generally not very good. We’ve taken a lot of these out and replaced them with Celestial 8” and wired them into BeoAmp2 with ease. However with 2 pairs of BL18 and a BL19 do you really need these in the main room? If you have positions in other rooms connect the BS Core and enjoy multiroom.

Regards

Stuart
