I finally gave in and chucked my trusty Beo Avant TV (anybody want it incl DVD1?) which drove my Beolab 1, Beolab 2 subwoofer and Beolab 8000 speaker setup. I now use a Samsung (boring) smart TV and want to connect the B&O speakers.
How do I connect the Beolabs?
Some suggest the headphone socket adaptor, but that can only handle two speakers or can it be three incl subwoofer if having the powerlink connected serially? Would these properly control the speakers, i.e. will they switch on and off with the TV?
Reading on the Beohub S8 it seems a neater solution as I can then hook up more speakers? Again will these properly switch on and off with the TV and will the only remote used be that of the TV? The TV has optiocal out so that would connect to the S8 and from the S8 it goes to the Beolabs the conventional way via powerlink?
many thanks in advance for answers and tips.
Hi pilza,
Welcome to Beoworld! You can use all three speakers with either the S8 Connection Hub, or directly with the TV headphone socket. The Hub has the potential for better sound quality, as the headphone outputs of some TVs are rather compromised. This also gives automatic switching of the speakers, as well as letting you connect a music player via an auxiliary input if required.
Please can you advise which is your preferred way to connect the speakers and I can confirm how best to get everything working.
Kind regards, Steve.

Hi Steve,
and thanks for the quick reply. I think I prefer the S8 hub as it sounds like it preserves the sound quality better. The TV has optical as well as usual audio outputs.
Setup would be to have a beolab at each corner of the room as is currently and the subwoofer in front of the TV. If possible, can I also add my Beosound 9000 player to the hub? Effectively all I will have done is replace the TV, nothing else. Which remote would control what or can they be combined?
many thanks
Arno
Hi Arno,
If you have a Beosound 9000, your best option may be to connect the speakers to this and then link the S8 Hub to the 9000 - this will give better control of the speakers. However, you will need separrate remotes for the 9000 and the TV whichever way you connect them.
Please can you let me know if you prefer to link the speakers mainly to the TV (via the S8 Hub) or to the 9000? I can then confirm how to do this.
If connecting the speakers via S8 directly to the TV, does that also require both remotes? If only one remote is used then that would be the preferred method.
You will always need two remotes to control the TV and the Beosound 9000. However, if the speakers are connected to the 9000 then you can use either the TV remote or the B&O remote for volume control, whereas if the speakers are connected to the S8 Hub then you need to use the TV remote to control the TV volume.
