Hi folks!

Happy to be on board here.

Since over a year I now am new to the B&O product world. Designwise I am happy, but functionality is a mess, to be honest. My Horizon-40 TV is slow and crashes all the time, but another issue is a BeoPlay M5 which loses its connection all the time after a few minutes. Enjoying music has not been possible from day 1, and the device is now older than a year.

The symptoms:

All I want to do is stream music von my iPad to the M5, preferably via AirPlay. However, when I connect my iPad (or any other Apple device for that matter) to the M5, everything begins normally. But after a few minutes, the connection drops, and I must re-connect again. The same thing occurs when I stream via Bluetooth. I am not using the complicated B&O apps, as I don’t see the need to “import” music or something.

I have done everything possible to try to resolve this: re-setup my whole wi-fi environment, tried 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz, different network names and passwords – and all usual other stuff. There are no problems whatsoever with my wifi in general. There are no disturbances, the distance to the router is small. I have even tried wifi amplifiers. No matter what I try, the connections drop.

The device was once sent to B&O via my dealer but came back with the remark that they couldn’t reproduce any problem.

What can I do? My M5 is unusable like this.

I’d be very grateful for any advice!

Regards from Hamburg, Germany.

Hi Jay,

I've got an M5 as well. At the start I had some problems too, but its running smoothly a few software updates. Some questions:

- What software is running on the M5?

- Does the M5 work without flaws once it's connected by cable?

Hi. Thanks for your reply. Of course I am always trying to keep every software up to date, including the one of the M5. The app (of which there exist two, oddly enough) tell me that the software is up-to-date with version 1.18.26655.191030915 (what kind of version number is that, anyway?).

Regarding the connection by Ethernet: when you plug it in, how do you make sure it is actually using the Ethernet connection and not the wifi one? Which app is the authorative one? And why is everything so confusing with a high-end manufacturer?

Regards
Jay

Update: So meanwhile I've installed a WiFi repeater with integrated Ethernet plug (by AVM Fritz). After connecting the M5 by cable and trying again, I've still had the connection problems. Apparently the M5 did not switch to the ethernet connection by itself. But after restarting the M5, the connection drops now seem to have become less frequent. I can at least play one song now.

Anyway, how can I make sure the M5 will always continue using the ethernet connection instead of the wifi connection?
