Hi, hoping to get some advice re which ATV to buy for my BV11

Currently got ATV connected to our 4 year old BV11-46 which was all purchased and set up from Lincoln B&O along with a pair of Beolab 9s. I assume the ATV must be an old model as it's at least 4 years old. Problem I have is quite often the ATV freezes when watching content from Netflix and Prime. Our broadband is brilliant - 150meg. The main issue that's really getting on my **** is occasionally when watching movies from Prime the ATV will crash and won't respond for approx 3-5 minutes. It will then on more than one occasion crash again, and again, until finally it'll work. If i had to guess, I would say it's because it's an old ATV and can't cope with the content it's downloading / streaming?

Anyway, could someone please advise which ATV I should buy which will be most suitable for a BV11. I notice there is a 4K model. Am I right in thinking this will give no benefit over the non-4K model on a BV-11?

Thank you Smile

Get the Apple TV 4K.

It'll automatically adapt to the TV. Obviously you won't get 4k, but you'll get outstanding performance in other respects; whether managing upscaling or sound. You're getting a processor and graphics controller delivering 400% better performance than the 4th gen for an extra £30 - why wouldn't you.

No brainer.

Brill - thanks for reply.

The other issue I have is - how easy is it to connect the BV11? If i recall, the B&O dealer fitted my current ATV to my BV11 with an STB bracket and also some funny looking cable stuck to the top of the ATV. He also integrated the remote functions into the remote control (Beoremote one I think it's called?). If it's a bit tricky to set up I'll have to give them a ring..

You can just use the cables that have been used for installing your current Apple TV. You only need to update the "PUC-code" in the BeoVision menu. Takes maximum 5 minutes and you're ready to enjoy your new Apple TV. It's a big step forward!

Thank you 1990. Is this relatively easy to do, or even better -  Is there a step-by-step guide from start to finish on the internet that will show me how to add a new ATV?

(as already stated) you add the ATV using the same cables etc (don’t forget the ir cable!) as used before.

You add/update the PUC this way.

Cheers! I've just had a look - the ATV i currently have is the 3rd generation.

Couple of questions - are the cables (power and HDMI) the same on the 4th gen 4k ATV as the cables on my 3rd gen, or would I need to swap cables? I only ask because my cables are all neatly tied in some kind of nice looking cable tidy, and I also don't like the thought of messing around in the HDMI bit on back of the BV11!

2nd question - I assume the ir cable is that thin cable with a sticky thing that sticks on top of the ATV box? I've just had a look at this and it fell off when I tugged it - the stickiness has gone. Can I just add some double sided sticky tape to it, or shall i superglue it on?

Thank you

Unless you have a very old HDMI cable, you should be fine just swapping rhe device with the ATV4 version (you’ll love it).

Just take what you have, ordinary tape or whatever makes it stick to the front of the ATV.

An easy transformation, indeed!

Thanks again for replies

New ATV 4K now set up and feels a noticeable upgrade over my old ATV! Picture quality seems better too - not sure if it's my eyes deceiving me but it really does look better in a quick 5 min trial.

Do any of you guys go into the ATV settings to do anything else that further optimises picture quality or sound over the standard (supplied with) factory settings for your B&O TV?

I'm hoping I have done the PUC codes correctly!? Some controls were usable from the old ATV, but I went into 'Service' on my BV11 and into the PUC menu and transferred the Apple TV 4th gen software. Does this then automatically apply to my BV11 because I was expecting to have to go into a few further menus to finish setting up the PUC? It just seemed a bit too easy. I was expecting to get into all sorts of trouble with it Big Smile

Transferring/downloading is the first step.

Afterwards you must assign that PUC to the device/the ATV4K.

When the ATV is chosen as the source, it must look like on my picture in my earlier post, when you press MENU on the remote.

Thanks mate. I've just tried all that and keep getting confused when it asks for things like IR Blaster. I also ticked the box to "turn off source at standby" and tested it.. but the ATV doesn't turn off (light still lit) when I turn my BV11 off. The ATV seems to be permanently on (standby light lit).

I was hoping to avoid having to call the B&O guys out but looks like that is now my only option Sad

On a separate note - my ATV is set to 1080p SDR 60hz in the 'Format' settings. Is this best for the BV11-46?

Thanks again for your help

Did you remember to push the Go/middle/Navi button in order to finalize the process?

This is often forgotten - with the result that the even made settings are’t stored.

P.S. I let my ATV as always on. They use veeeeery little energy in standby mode - and don’t need to start up every time I need them......but, your choice counts!

The K in the ATV4K won’t bring you any further - a BV11 has FullHD resolution.....so the setting is right.

I *think* I pressed the middle button...? I'll probably have another go one day when I have more time. It's not toooo bad because the buttons on the B&O remote work with the ATV probably because a lot of the settings will be the same as with the previous gen ATV.

Thanks again for your help - much appreciated!
