BeoSound 3000 - doors stay open when wall mounted, close when sitting on table top

Hi there, I apologize if this has been asked before.  I searched the forums and didn't find an answer. I have a BeoSound 3000 in for repair.  When it was wall mounted at the customer's house the glass doors would stay open and the lights would stay on.  I took it off the wall to see if there was something obstructing the doors and set in the table.  The doors closed and it worked perfectly.  I put it back on the wall and the doors would once again open and stay open.  I found that if it was on the table leaning backward slightly like it does, it works fine.  But when I leaned it forward slightly to replicate the upright position it is in when wall mounted, the doors would open and stay open.  This one doesn't make much sense to me. But then again, I haven't seen a lot of these in for repair. Belts all seem fine.  Any ideas?

Thanks,
Greg

The door system is clever and complex, but your problem may have a simple answer.

Have you tried cleaning the back of the glass doors, and the black plastic panels too.

The doors simply pull off their guide's for cleaning.

I'll try cleaning everything and report back.

But, I'm also curious how the doors are triggered to open and close? I assume there's a photodiode circuit of some sort, but I haven't taken it apart far enough to see where it is.

Thanks,
Greg

It's a clever system employing both transmission and reception of ir beam's that form a zone near the keyboard. When you put your hand towards the keyboard,it disturbs the zone and triggers the upc to open the door's.

It can be fooled by items being too near the machine which reflect the beams,or dust and filming on the glass.

The '3000 and '3200 in particular can in fact become too sensitive,so the doors remain open. This may also be your problem of course.

I think there  was a mod for this, but try cleaning the glass first.

Hi, sorry its been so long to reply, but this one has been frustrating.  I took it apart and cleaned the doors and the interior casing.  Tested it while apart by leaning it forward well beyond where it would be when wall mounted.  It seemed to work fine every time... except when leaning it too far forward it would randomly open by itself.  Then I put it back together and tested it again.  It seemed OK.  I took it back to the customer's house and reinstalled it on the wall,  It failed again just like before (doors opened and stayed open).  Its back at my shop again and it seems to be working again while in the same position as being wall mounted.  I think it must be an intermittent issue.  Any more ideas?

Thanks,
Greg

Hi.

May it be some kinds of light beam or something, hitting the sensors just when its wall mounted with THAT angle in THAT position, preventing the doors to close?

Thanks, yeah I thought about that, but I checked for light sources or anything that might be interfering with it at the house.  Basically, it's been in the same place at the house for years and never had a problem.  I'll keep digging into it I guess.

Thanks,

Greg

That's a good point. Also, are  there any rf generator's  nearby, such as dect phone base, low energy lighting?

I've seen this happen when a tv is switched on in the same room too.

A Beovision lcd when the initial menu appeared, would simultaneously trigger the doors open.Mad or what?

I think that the "magic open" system is too sensitive in your machine, and that something on site is breaking through either optical(infra red) or rf?

B&O simplified the circuit with the later '3000/3200,it seems to occur with those model's rather than the earlier 2500/ouverture

Hope the above  helps?

Nick
