Three items today Smile

1) C2103 for a B&O CD4500 CD player. For a few days it would turn on but not display the track numbers, then turn itself off. (It now seems to have cured itself.) Digging through these forums, I see the usual suspect is C2103. (Of course I could be completely wrong, that HAS happened . . . )

2) I understand Dillen is the go-to Guru on this and other items - how do I contact him? Is there a website? I can buy the cap from Mouser or DigiKey, but frankly, I'd rather keep things "in the family". Dillen's reputation here makes me prefer to send the money to him.

3) Just bought a cosmetically almost perfect 2400 (for $50 but I had to go pick it up, sigh) which was advertised as "not working". I have not yet plugged it in but it came with three 3D printed plastic rectangles which I believe to be the fix kit for the sliding potentiometers. There's also an un-attributed instruction sheet to install them (I think Dillen is involved in this).

As I say, I have not powered it on yet, but I wanted to ask what the usual suspects are for a non-working 2400. I like to find this kind of thing out before I come back here and complain that it made big sparks and a square purple smoke ring and now what do I do . . . ?

Incidentally, I have a pair of RL45 speakers and I've found that the plastic straps which hold them together are the same size as strapping bands used for shipping boxes by UPS, etc. I've salvaged a number of these straps, now I'm going to see if I can make them work. (Dear Amazon, I'm returning the sofa, the love seat and the refrigerator for a full refund, but I'm keeping the packing materials. Thank you.)

Other than a recap and check the surround on the passive radiators, is there anything in the RL45s that I should do before I seal them up forever?

Best Regards,

Mike/Florida

Very easy - just click on my name
<--- out there to the left somewhere, and send me an email or a PM.
Alternatively, use the contact form on the Beoparts website.

Connected speakers, plugged it in, turned it on.

No sound.

There is (some) power, the volume control works, the FM tuner signal strength meter lights up but shows no activity, just a tickle of noise from the three slider controls, distinct "click" on power off. No result from feeding signal to phono inputs. Selectors on front panel work.

Opened bottom, nothing burnt, no funny smells.

Time for the schematic and voltmeter unless someone says "Oh yeah, that's R54, they all do that!" or similar.

Shortcuts from gurus welcome ;-)

Best Regards,

Mike/Florida

"the FM tuner signal strength meter lights up "
Where is that?

Green bars on the right side of the faceplate display, under the big tuning knob for FM5.

I have two bars on each side of the "divider", but no change when I tune the unit. I have to attach a different antenna because I'm in a steel building which kills radio signals from the outside.

I'll know more in a few days.

Thank you!

They are discriminator lights. They don't show signal strength.
There can be many reasons for them not reacting.

I suggest you grab a capacitor kit and replace the lot.
It's next to impossible to diagnose eventual remaining problems with 50-60 bad capacitors in circuit.

Well I guess I ought to warm up my super-duper soldering station, it makes me look like I actually know what I'm doing . . . and I love the smell of rosin core flux in the morning ;-)

Where do I get the capacitor kit? I am of the impression that somewhere there is a list of various repair kits/repair parts for various B&O products, but so far, I have not found it.

I'd prefer to buy a kit than go to Digikey or Mouser and work from a parts list. ("We're out of that, minimum quantity for those is 5,000, NLA", etc.)

Incidentally, the CD4500 is behaving properly, so C2103 is not on the "buy next" list, although it sounds like I ought to have one in stock "for later" just in case.

Thank you and best regards (and have a safe an happy new year!),

Now that the holidays are over and our planet-wide hangover seems to be (mostly) gone, I'd like to move forward on the 2400 repair.

It was suggested that I get a capacitor kit and change 'em all. Is there a list of the required parts or is there a kit available - if so, where do I get it?

Thank you and happy new year,

Mike/Florida
