Hi all,

One of my beo4 (mk3 DTV) remotes has developed a problem whereby it only works when pointed directly at the device. I changed the batteries for fresh ones to no avail, swapped them with batteries from a working beo4, no difference, then last night checked to see that the IRs were firing using my phones camera and saw only one of the 2 IR emitters is lighting up! Could some special low power mode been activated through accidental key press? As far as I know it's not been dropped but can't rule that out with 2 kids in the house. Is there a way to reset the mk3 remotes? There isn't an option in the settings menu in this one to reset.

Thanks for your help.

I found this about setting the IR strength:

I was looking for that explanation too, but couldn't find the details - sadly it's only for the Beo4 with the joystick.

Having fixed/reconditioned many remotes, I've never experienced a single IR transmitter failure. IIRC the IR transmitters are attached to the main PCB, hence I would suspect a breakage or failure at the contact/solder point.

Thanks for the help Guy. After receiving your post last night I decided to take the remote apart and the IR connections appeared to be OK. One thing I noticed was the IR that did work didn't appear as bright through my phone's camera compared to my other mk3 remote. I decided to put it back together, tested it and to my surprise the remotes working again!! Both IRs light up and are bright! Very strange. Rob.

Great news.  I must admit that last time I 'fixed' a Beo4 I simply took it apart and put it back together again!  Perhaps those small rubbery strips that provide contact to the screen play a greater role in the internal electronics Smile
