Good to see they’ve learnt the lessons of not chasing the millionaire market then!

Beosound Stage, Beovision 8-40, Beolit 20, Beosound Explore.

Whether they are still affordable?

And if they are thrown just as carelessly into the LG chassis as the 14-55 and the Eclipse, will hardly find any more customers.

Com’on - you are the first one to know that (yes, I did notice, that you wrote ‘I think’).

Before this one feather turns into 5 hens - please reveal your source!

P.S. Not saying that it could not happen - but.....

I have heard the same rumor. From a person who works at a beo store. He mentioned a77 and an even big 85ish (can’t remember the actual size) OLED tv as a premium product. (Not sure about the implementation of lg vs B&O and for the customers who can’t afford the tv a sound bar / center close to the one in the eclipse.

I’m curious when it will come and if it fits the rumor. Maybe at ISE?

One of the owners of a B&O shop in Munich told me the same about an upcoming 77 inch Eclipse during 2019.

Also B&O cannot use the C7 panel for the Eclipse forever, so I expect an Eclipse MK2 in the second half of 2019 with perhaps a C9 panel, except B&O decided to scrap the TV's completely in the meantime (what I don't think)

I remember my local B&O dealer telling me that  TV was used to get a section of the customers and that they would then sell them speakers as an upgrade which brought more profit. Without the TVs they would be losing these customers.

Beo Century ,Beoplay V1, Beocenter 6, Ex-Beolit 12, Beotime , A8. Beolit 15 , Form 2i , Beolab 2000, Beoplay A3.Beosound 1

Spot on.

I have an Eclipse, that I will thus pair with some Beolab 18s.

No Eclipse, no Beolab 18s.

Beosound Stage, Beovision 8-40, Beolit 20, Beosound Explore.

Well, you should be able to pair the 18’s with a 2019 LG/OLED tv.

I would actually consider it, mostly because the b&o tax is not in line anymore with what you get imo. Though it’s less of an issue if the screen is separate. As of now, if stock runs out with the eclipse, it’s basically just dead and you even have to toss the sound part. So let’s hope b&o is clever and if they make a soundbar they as hdmi 2.1 so it stays future compattible until 10k res Smile

Agreed, though some will say the B&O sound processing is the special sauce that justifies the "tax".

Might be something to that, but whether it matters that much to some I don't know.

Sure, to a degree. Though the dts:x and dolby standards arn’t bad either. Iam sure they could even do something like an almando box with the sound processing in it and call it the beosystem 5 lite/ beosound receiver or something like that. That way they only need to ad a center speaker to the portfolio(or put it all together in a soundbar obviously). Most of what the eclipse is, minus the attached speakers and screen. That’s a very small package anyway when you open up the back and look at it. It could be put in something the size of a slim dvd player really.

Since LG is open sourcing their tv platform a little bit more anyway i could also see a “magic beoremote one” happen.

Agreed, DTS-X and / or Dolby are plenty excellent for video watching.

I guess the issue is for music listening with B&O speakers. For some reason, I don't trust traditional AV processors (the big box Onkyo's of the world) to do a decent job with B&O speakers. As such, an LG TV with some ability to process video multi channels - good enough for video watching, not so sure about music listening.

For that reason alone I'd still look to a B&O heart to handle both, even if it means 5.1 and not Atmos.

It's not as if 5.1 delivered through the BS4 engine is bad, quite the opposite, its superb.

I really don't want separate audio and video systems / architecture again.

There is a tv - and there is a BV.

Will it come with a remote stand, a built in B&O centre speaker, and a remote control capable of controlling everything in one beautifully made package?

It’ll be the end of them.

No - certainly not.

But you just asked for a reason to buy the 18’s - so if that is not enough, I guess you will have to stick to your BV Eclipse 😉

I could be one of these ‘somes’ - considering what the Sound Center offers.

But you may be right - it may not matter that much to other ‘somes’...

...especially not to those, who seem to be content with a big impressing tv and a pair of BeoLabs connected via the Connection Hub in a 2.0 configuration....

.......or some BeoLabs connected via the WiSA stick to a 2019 LG OLED.

If B&O wasn’t able to deliever the ‘special sauce’, there would be no need for hanging on to B&O.

Yes, me too.

I don't trust wireless enough - its.awesome in some use cases, but isn't robust enough for heavy data loads really (ok, maybe if you spend money on some serious Wifi architecture, but then that's not the"easy" solution anymore).

I also don't trust a 3rd party sound processor to make the most of my music listening with my BeoLabs.

Anyway, I'm sure whatever they do, they won't leave their Beolab products stranded / isolated.

Something will come that enables their integration, whether that's a new BV, a hub with or without centre channel, who knows.....

But like many, I follow out of interest and for future planning reasons - but still see no need to upgrade.

Netflix in HD is still better on my 12-65 than Netflix in 4K on my Avant Gen 1.

And I don't care enough about HDR to be honest - Marvel films in HDR are still Marvel films, and mostly forgettable.

I would be delighted if they basically sold the soundcenter as a stand alone product. With screen sizes of 77” and over, iam not sure the moveable stand is needed, especially with the viewing angles oled gives you. With the 50’s/90’s i feel most of the magic happens in the speakers them selves. I do think their surround and music stuff is superior. My issue is basically that the b&o tax also applies on basically a bog standard screen. The software and slight hardware changes are minimal and as i said with lg becoming more open, they might just be able to run menu overlays in a sleek way soon. They (lg) do it for other soundbars too so why not for b&o in the future?

Interesting - not that I've looked closely, but what other sound bars have you seen that do a reasonable job with their own (presumably their own?) menu overlays?

Otherwise agreed - absent vision clear, and all the other heritage B&O stuff, a B&O screen may not be strictly necessary.

So on my option 1 (another BV) vs option 2 (a B&O hub / sound centre) question of a few weeks ago - I'd be perfectly happy with option 2.

Unless option 1 is a B&O wallpaper......still my ultimate dream (77 inches please!)

But - be sure that this Sound Center solution (old, upgrated or new) won’t come cheap (if it comes).

You won’t get a solution with a ‘special sauce’ for small money.

And it is not just about showing the menus on the screen ‘of your own choice’ - that could theoretically be done via an app (like with the 50/90).

It is much more about how you control ‘the whole unit’ with a decent remote (read: B&O remote).

Define “cheap”?

If there is a stand option that’s fine. Secondly if the soundcenter was sold as a soundbar and was 3-6grand euro i’d be fine with that, depending on specs. The stand is about 1400 euro. Again with 77” or above i wouldn’t go for the stand. The current lg bit is basically a glorified monitor and what b&o doesn’t give you still comes from lg natively(and still gets the b&o tax added). Nothing wrong with that inherrantly, but due to oled having a finite lifespan it concerns me more than if it was an led/lcd tv. The sound from the eclipse is impressive for sure and it’s by far the best tv b&o have made PQ and sound wise, though i think due to the inherrant nature of oled i feel it’s one of the least robust platforms for 5+ years of use. That again isn’t a huge issue if the price wasn’t so steep, let alone knowing if you can even get a replacement screen at that point. So it’s more the combination of things than one thing in specific. I wouldn’t even mind if the “soundbar” was lg specific, but atleast you have the choice and the ability to get replacement bits that aren’t so specific that would make it otherwise impossible to keep enjoying the b&o sound magic.

Sandyb,

I for the life of me can’t find the video anymore. I though i saved it. I think it was a denon soundbar, but iam unsure at this point in time. Sorry about that, it’s been a few months since i’ve seen it. Smile

‘Cheap’ would be on average with other claimed good soundbars.

I am pretty sure, that most of the money, that Eclipse owners spend on that tv, went into the sound solution (and the stand option).

But you are right - for people who want to be on par with the latest video tech, it is a problem to integrate one particular model as well as it is done with the Eclipse.

I wonder what the costs for a replacement screen part for the Eclipse would be?

It must be possible to get that, if the screen for some reason should be damaged (cats or kids....), or?

The tv comes in two different packages anyway.

Anyone ever required for a price for that?

And how about having a 2019 replacement part, when that could be ready - would you consider paying the price for that to have it properly integrated?

I guess we two have different views on what ‘B&O sound magic’ is.

To me it is not just how (good) a speaker from B&O is - or looks.

It is to a great part how these work together in a setup - 3 channel and even more....and how you are able to control that experience (with one  remote)

This is where the magic ‘special sauce’ of the Sound Center comes into the game.

I really hope (and think I have heard rumors to that effect) that the next iteration of the Eclipse will be more flexible when it comes to the screen.

Meaning that the screen will be upgradable (still LG though).

I think it’s hard to justify the investment when screen technology moves so fast.

I proposed that years ago on here and was laughed at, together with my prediction of there being wallpaper TVsWhistle.

I play SD on my Eclipse and it does a pretty good job. Play a decent Blu-ray is does an amazing job. Same with UHD, but the difference between these two is fairly small depending on sources of course. I’m not sure what else can really change for the foreseeable future to be honest.

We’ve had SD to HD, Plasma to LCD to Edge lit LCD. Now we are firmly into the OLED era I think we will have a period of relative stability, with the marketing men doing their best to dress up minor changes. This is why I am content in my purchase.

Tbf wallpaper Tv's have been promised since the 70's.

So, can we take it you are satisfied with your Eclipse and will keep it as your main TV until it is beyond repair?

This is my plan, and I hope the time-frame for "beyond repair" is closer to 15 years than 5.  This, in fact, is my main concern with the tv. How long will it be repairable given the short product cycles from LG.
