Hello,
I'm looking to sell my Type K speakers but I'd like some help valuing them.
I can only find one other pair for sale in Germany for £1000.
How rare are they?
Any help would be greatfully received.
Thanks,
They are not that common but are very much designed for the earlier valve based amplifiers and the first of the germanium based transistor amplifiers. They could handle about 18W. They are well made and usually look wonderful but are archaic in design, using all cone based drive units. The person who will buy these will be a collector, not a Hi-Fi enthusiast. These are also large speakers so the collector will need space for them.
I think £1000 is wildly optimistic - a zero off the end would be more likely and even then you will have to find the buyer. I would characterise them as interesting from an historical point of view.
Peter
They were only produced for a couple of years. They do appear sometimes on the usual sites and I've seen them advertised for up to 2,500 EUR a pair but I've never ever seen them sell for such a ludicrous price - despite the relative rarity.

Market forces will decide their worth. Where are you based? I assume you mean this pair which keep appearing on eBay at ever reducing prices - or best offer:

To an avid collector with the right system to set them up with, they may be worth close to that sum but not to many peoplel I don't think. They haven't been restored either so expect some work to do.
Much depends on condition - cosmetic and functionality. If they haven't been restored, they will need to be as the crossovers will need work and quite possibly the drivers will need work.
Dave.
They are very desirable speakers indeed. I'm actually looking for a pair, but definitely not in the 1000€ region! For that kind of money you get mint, unrestored Beovox 5000s and Cubes.
Jacques
For that kind of money, you are close to getting fully restored ones too!
There was a similar thread fairly recently discussing the value of these speakers.

Auction would be the best bet in my opinion!

Out of pure interest, where are you located?
Hi Ben,
We are in Steyning West Sussex. I actually sold these originally but the purchaser didn't realised that it was a collect only sale and I didn't want to risk posting them so I still have them.
My new years job is to re list them!
We actually live a few doors away from the B&W academy of sound R&D centre so i might enquire there. . .
We'd still like to sell them but am quite prepared to sell them for a competitive price.
Hi
Am in the market from some Type k speakers.
These would go with my 608 amplifier.
What price are you after and what is condition like?
Many thanks, Matthew
