Hello all in Beoworld. I've tried searching for photos of how the laser should be fitted back in my beosound 3200. I know I should of taken photos before I took it apart, oops.
My issue is how does it fit with the 2 parallel tracks, one side is easy as it goes through the holes, the other side is more tricky as the way I have it installed the cd laser pickup is now on an angle. Please view the photo I've taken and hopefully either one of you will be able to tell me if I've installed it correctly or the replacement cd laser I was sent is not the correct one.
this is the part I used

In the picture, following the numbers on the laser assy you just see a blach tab sticking out, this tab should be UNDER the bar, not on top of it!
Yes, I think the reason for this is because the black plastic guide tab is either on the wrong side of the metal guide rail, or the black plastic guide tab is manufactured incorrectly?
Indeed, the plastic guide and the spring should both bear on the white plastic plate inset in the chassis.,The plastic guide in your photo is bearing on the guide rail.It should be under it bearing on the chassis plate

Thanks both for your help, i've re positioned the laser correctly now. Although it hasn't fixed my problem of it not playing cds. It still says load cd, sometimes the cd spins about half a turn and then again half a turn, but never enough to play the cd. Any ideas on what could be the issue?
Try to clean laser lens
Is your cd mech a type VAU1255(see label on end of cd chassis)? If so,it's quite likely that the replacement laser assembly is incompatible or actually u/s!!!
There is a subtle difference between the laser's that B&O used and most of the replacements that are currently available.
If you e.mail me,I can give you details of someone who can either supply the correct laser,or repair the mechanism if you send it to him(U.K.)
Yes it says VAU1255/21 so the replacement laser I purchased isnt the correct one for my unit?
I wasted a lot of time over so called "direct replacement" laser's for this chassis!
It's rumoured that B&O bought up the last of the stock of these items when Philips(the maker's) ceased production,so it's a bit "hit n miss" when sourcing replacements.Occasionally I found a good one,but mostly not!!!
I think they are being made again now though,as pattern parts? They were employed in other brands of cd player, and many owners are keen to restore their players to full function as we B&O enthusiasts do.
If I need to repair something like a '3000/3200,BS1 or BS9000 cd player nowaday's I send the cd mechanism away to an enthusiast in the U.K.He has managed to repair every mech I've sent him so far.
I have no commercial connection with him,and would publish his details here, but I know that the moderators take a dim view of third party marketing
Hello all again. Well i've had the supplier of the laser lens send me the correct one. I've installed it today and the cd now spins a few times but never plays the cd. After it spins it lifts up the cd clamp and say "load cd" I've cleaned the lens anything else I can try before taking the beosound apart again and sending the cd chassis to a specialist?

Hi bigbruggsy

I've been trying the test modes to workout where the problem is and I have a general question about how the test modes. Is it possible to have the cd clamp open when doing the cd test? As I'm not sure having it open is compromising the test results. At the moment, I cant see if the laser is working (in focus test mode) am I meant to be able to see the laser light with a camera? The cd spindle doesnt spin, but the cd does spin twice when theres a cd in. With the cd clamp open the laser doesnt move up or down either. Any ideas anyone?

Only if you disengage the mechanical metal pin. The pin connects the loading mechanism to the clamper at the back. The switch at the clamp unit senses the status and triggers the micro when open.
I have a Beosound 3200 which has developed exactly the same problem so it must be a relatively common problem - have you made a diagnosis yet?
Hello, I'm sorry, in the end I purchased a NEW CD chassis, rather than working out what was wrong with mine.
