I have an SP12 cartridge with a 1/2" adapter installed, which came from a Dual 1218 turntable. As pictured, there is a copper wire jumper between GL and a 5th pin in the center of the adapter.
I would appreciate any information on this setup. I have found other pictures with and without the jumper and have a couple of questions.
- Does the jumper need to be in place when using the adapter?
- Why does the adapter have a 5th pin when the SP12 cartridge has 4 pins?
The original stylus is in great condition, and I would like to be sure I don't muck anything up as I would like to install this on another turntable. The Dual needs an extensive overhaul though I did a quick test and the cartridge sounded good.
Thanks.
I found the answer in an SP 14 instruction sheet. The 5th is a "Separate Earthpin" and where the pick-up arm has 4 leads, connect the centre earth and GL. A pic from the sheet is below.
