Well after weeks and weeks of endless frustration where are we?

My 30 year old Beosystem 7000 ain’t going anywhere as there ain’t nothing better to replace it! It replaced a 5500 system which I was happy with but I just went for the more modern look and Beolink 7000.

So through Beovox 140, Beolab Penta 2, Beolab 9, Beolab 5, Iam now at Beolab 50.

My conclusion... If like me you expectthings to work after buying them, you will hate Beolab 50. I was close to throwing them away!! Their customer friendliness I would rate as zero. Horrible connections (wired) and wirelessly, it s8mply refuses to work. You really could cut your wrists over these things!

But eventually, really hundredsof hours of work, we got there. We got connected, got configured with their microphone, another few days, and where are we now?

well let’s start with CD. I had purchased a Cambridge CDX transport machine with my Beolab 5’s as the CD7000 was just not quite up to the job. Not so with the 50’s. Days of comparison and I much prefer the CD7000.The Cambridge willnow be sold.

I have many cassette tapes. Most have been confined to “storage” for many years. But now... OMG! These things sound amazing through the Beolab 50’s. They have been given a second life. I can’t get over this. A good recording here sounds as good as anything Ihave ever heard.really.

Radio... well I am still on a ribbon aerial which is not so good. I am working on a proper FM outside connection which hopefully will improve things but right now it is listenable but not much more.

Beogram 7000, with MMC2.Probably the most dussapointing. Very sweet sounding but no guts! As a teenager I remember my Technics deck being the one mach8ne that gave a punch. So where is it with this Beogram? It is weak. Too weak for the money. Very disappointing and I have to admit to be looking at a Beogram 4000, but would it really be better? Time may tell?

anyway, ?I just thought I would share my thought of such ownership with you for, hopefully, your interest?

The Beolab 50’s I can recommend, IF, you are prepared to put up with horrendous connection and adaption issues. Once sorted, they are truly wonderful. I just hope it lasts.

If you want the best Beogram and you want more heft, you need the Beogram 3000 Thorens, otherwise known as the Thorens TD124 Mk II. The bass knocks every other beogram into the dust. I suspect the record support has a fair bit to do with it - mine runs a 12" arm and a custom SP2 cartridge thanks to Frede. I have a 4000 which is a great deck and is beautifully made, but the 3000 sounds better.
