Hi all,

Soon I will setup another vintage system in my musicroom.

Is the Thorens (I have one, purchased in 1982 with a Yamaha Cartridge) is a good combination with the BM? I want to use (new, a present) Wharfedale Diamond 10.1 on floorstands. Any other suggestions?

Looking forward to your advice/recommendation(s).

Kind regards!

Yes - this will work fine. B&O actually used a Thorens 124badged as a Beogram 3000 in the 60s. I use BBC LS3/5A speakers on AB1 woofers which are not dissimilar to your Diamonds.

The BM 4400 will have no problems with the TT or the speakers, the placing of the speakers are important as they have the bass tube coming out the rear. Too close to walls will give some distortion, I would recommend that you go looking for Beovox S/M 75, or even M 100/150, good luck with it.

I will use my BM 4400 with my 3702s, and later try it with my last addition P45s, I´m running out of floor space, so I will have to start using the walls

Collecting Vintage B&O is not a hobby, its a lifestyle.

I used a Thorens TD160 regularly with my Beomaster 4400 with no problems though I used Beovox Penta speakers.  You should have no problems.

Dave.

Hi,

Yes it will work. It all depends on the cartridge you have. The TD160 is a very dull turntable, not very detailed or anything. In a word, boring to death.

I gave up using mine (Rega RB-300 equipped) and prefer using my Beograms, 4000 or 8000 which are in my opinion much better decks.

Do buy a bright cartridge—like an Audio Technica AT440, AT95 if money is tight;

Jacques
