hi and sorry if this has already been asked! im struggling to find the answer even using the search.
i have a beovision 7-40 mkII which i love - esp the red led retro display and dont want to change the tv.
however i have been supplied with a new set top box - the virgin v6 and it only outputs using an HDMI lead - the old v5 box had HDMI and also scart outputs and i used the scart-in on the back of my beovision 7-40 mkII - it worked very well and had a good picture and sound.
so how can i connect this new v6 box to my bv 7 as my tv has no hdmi input - just 3 scart - in.
many many thanks for any help offered.
It is not an easy task - but it may be possible.
I used Google to search (the search function in the forum page is rather bad).
I searched for this: beovision 7-40 mk2 and hdmi.
This is one of the results:

There is a tv - and there is a BV
I use one of these converters on the HDMI out of my FireTV connected to a scart adapter on my Beocenter 1 TV via the red, white and yellow cables. You should be able to use the existing scart input as set for your old box.
You must ensure you buy the version that converts HDMI in to Composite out, and on the scart you need to ensure it is a composite in to scart out. You can get switchable scart adapters for a little more cash.
Found a picture of a switched convertor
thanks for the reply - iv tried dong what that guy did - add the PC button and plugged the stb hdmi out into the scart sockets and also the yellow, red, white sockets - still nothing!.
iv ordered an hdmi converter box as suggested by the next poster so we will see how that works out next week!.
hi stobbietoo,
many thanks for your reply and helpful pics.
iv ordered the hdmi2av box and i already have the 3 pin to scart part so fingers crossed this solution works!.
i kept my old Virgin v5 box as that has a scart output on it which works just fine on the bv7-40 / II its just that the v6 box is 1/4 the size, can be hidden in a cupboard and still works with the remote, and can record 6 programs at same time while watching a 7th!. ( not that i ever will lol ) it's just a far more modern unit with faster responses and just works better, hence i am keen to find a way of making it work with my tv!.
ill let you know what happens next week when i get back and the parts should be here to set it up - fingers crossed!

It should work but if your HDMI2AV doesn't come with power you may need to find an old phone USB charger that fits to power it. As I said, mine is connected to a FireTV (HDMI) and then to my old CRT Beovision with scart only.
Providing you set the connections correctly in the TV menu I can see no reason this wouldn't work for you too.
Good luck

hi stoobie
many thanks again for your help and info!. the little box you showed me came - with hdmi input and scart output. it came with a cable that connects to a usb type charger/plug and so iv got that all plugged in and a red indicator showing its getting power.
so iv got the virgin v6 box hdmi out connected to this little box hdmi input. then a scart lead from the box scart out to the back of the beovision - it has 3 scart inputs.
with the old virgin v5 box which had a scart output on the back of it, when i switched on the virgin box the beovsion automatically switched over channel to receive the signal from the v5 box and it worked fine.
but so far i cant get anything from this v6 box ( i know the v6 box is fine - because i plugged the v6 box into my samsung tv which has hdmi inputs and i get a good clear picture and sound.
how do i select scart 1 / 2 / 3 on the beovison 7 (mk II ) so that it tunes into my v6 box? there isnt a scart 1/2/3 " button " on the remote or even one that i can find to " add " on the beo4 control, so am at a loss as to how to tell the tv to play whats on scart 1 / 2 / 3!
many thanks for all your help so far!
Finally! Success!
i connected the v6 box to the scart 2 socket.
i added DVD2 to the beo4.
the picture and sound work perfectly now from my VirginV6 box - so happy because at one point i was about to give up on the whole thing and go back to my old v5 box with a scart output!.
id very much like to know what scart1 is for and how to select whatever is plugged into it because i probably look to add my apple tv box now to this setup!
thankyou so much for your help - i wouldnt have got this far without your help scoobie!.
Hi,
I'm not familiar with the settings on the BV7 but the scart need to be set up in the TV connections menu. The scart are accessed via the buttons assigned, Ie V.MEM, DVD, DTV etc. On mine I have scart 1 set as STB in the connections menu and the DTV button turns to the input of my Freeview recorder. Scart 2 is set up with my HDMI2AV and that is set to V.AUX in the connections menu and I had to add V.AUX to the list button. So when I press LIST, V.AUX, GO it turns to that input.
Hope that helps
Haha, we were busy typing at the same time. So glad you got it working! Do you have any other Digital tuner connected to watch TV, because if not you should be able to set the connections to scart 1, connect you Virgin box and use the DTV button so you don't need to use the LIST DVD2.
You could then use the LIST V.AUX for your Apple TV.
that all makes sense now!. what was confusing me is that in the connections menu it refers to av1,2,3 etc but the extra " buttons " to add into beo4 have cmpletely different names like DVD2, STB etc etc
strangely it only works with the v6 box plugged into av2 ( av1 i only get sound and no picture ) and av 2 socket set to dvd2 on beo4. iv got picture and sound and iv set beo4 so that the 1st button which appears in list is dvd2.
its not perfect, but it works and it ll do for now!
thanks once again for all your help and replies!
yes we were and still are typing at the same time!
no, i dont have any other equipment plugged into the tv at all. only this virgin v6 box.
i would very much like to be able to hit DTV on my beo4 and for the tv to turn on and not have to also use the List + Go to activate DVD2 ( av2 socket where the v6 is plugged into). but when i plug the v6 into av1 socket, i cant seem to activate it on the tv. must be something to do with the settings/button on av1 not being right. i even selected virgin stb but that doesnt do anything either!.
so am very tempted to just leave it the way it is because it works. i dont want to go back to tearing my hair out with it again!
my old samsung lcd tv is so much easier to use. it has a blue button on the remote that as you press it, works its way through all the input sockets and its just so simple and easy - i wish B&O would have a look at how easy Samsungs menu is to use!.
Well, now you know scart 2 works as DVD 2 leave that as is for now but experiment more with scart 1. You can always reconnect to scart 2 until you get the other working.
I have the connection in my menu as STB and that works using my DTV button. It won't make too much difference what version of STB you choose as that is only to activate the IR controller which you don't seem to be using.
What connection options do you get for scart 1 (AV1)?
well i turned the tv and the v6 box off and left it whilst i made tea.
went back to it, then plugged the v6 box into AV1 socket, ( set to v.mem ) and it works! lol. not quite sure how / why, but now from Sby, i can hit v.mem and the tv turns on and the v6 box works great.
I have just read in the manual for the BV7-32 that AV1 is set to V.MEM and I was just about to say try that. So at least now it is just the 1 button instead of using list.
Great that it is working. Next is your Apple TV.
