Hi all,

‘just reunited myself with B&O after many years through the purchase of a Beocentre 9500 - one of the reasons being to record cassettes to use in a car I’m restoring.

The Beocentre is immaculate with all sliding parts working correctly. CD reads and plays instantly, however it will not record to cassette.

‘The record process kicks off fine, the VU meter bounces away but on play back there is little sound - by little I mean little more than static with a hint of the original source buried in the background, maybe just a small beat.

Any suggestions on where to start looking would be gratefully received, I have some electronics background and so don’t mind disassembly and soldering. I have a couple of decent voltage meters.

oh yes, one more thing the cassette mechanism seems to give an occasional shrieking noise

regards

Will it play prerecorded tapes?

Hi there, I was told they had been replaced prior to purchase - and it plays tapes fine (I managed to find a prerecorded one)

Sounds like a BIAS problem.
Check the BIAS oscillator.

Thanks for your diagnosis Martin.

I have a circuit diagram on which I can see BIAS OSCILLATOR labelled.

Is there an obvious component in that area I should look at ?

Thanks in advance

Steve
