Hi Paul,

Ill try and help as much as my memory allows from all that time ago when i had one.

Firstly, i remember having a WD network drive with Twonky, but i am sure that i also attached a HDD to one as well.

From memory you have to get the BS5Encore to find / recognise the drive

It’s been years, but i think you have to press > > GO and there you can choose one of the options there in the service menu

Try that and hope it works.

Paul,

I use(d) a 256GB thumb drive for my BS5E. I think I formatted it as FAT32.

If you want to use a large capacity hard drive, try exFAT.

FAT32 should be fine. I use my BeoSound5 Encore with a Mac as well, and that has always worked for me.

BeoLab 5, BeoVision 7-55 MK2, BeoSound 5 Encore, BeoSound 9000, BeoLab Penta III, BeoLab 8000, BeoLab 6000, BeoLab 2, BeoLab 7-6, BeoSound 8, BeoTime (analog clock), Beo 4 remote.

Paul, a few thoughts:

- Does the external drive have its own power supply, or is it powered by the USB socket? Some external HDDs require more power than the BS5E’s USB socket can provide. This shouldn’t be a problem with an SSD.

- If it is a HDD, is it actually spinning?

- What is the total capacity of the drive?

- Have you installed only 1 partition on it? More than one partition may confuse the BS5E.

- Have you connected it via a USB hub? If so, try connecting it directly.

- How much music (GB) do you have on the drive? The larger the music library, the longer it takes the BS5E to load it.

1. Where did you connect the usb hhd? Front or back?

2. Roles is set to CD or N.Music?
