This is really becoming a nightmare. The tape of my Ouverture broke several months ago and I finally decided to take the whole unit to a repair centre that I was advised where there's also a guy who used to work for B&O. I've just been told that this cannot be repaired since they need the general diagram with all parts shown as well as the parts themselves. According to them both diagram and parts are no longer available. I had thought it was the belts but apparently is more like clogs/wheels. My unit was bought in January 1995 in Italy with serial number 11063025.
Can anyone let me know where/if I could get this diagram and spare parts? I hate having the unit not working completely.
Thank you in advance
I must have about 30 of those units and most of the cassette issues was the belt. How did you conclude it's not the belt ?

Hi Leslie,
I just know what I've been told by the engineer over the phone. First he said the parts were no longer available then he said that they would need a diagram showing all the parts that form the tape to see what they need/part number. He also mentioned the age of the unit which I didn't think was that relevant. I was surprised as well when he talked about it as I thought it was a belt issue. At first the rewind was getting stuck and worked only sometimes then all went dead. When pressed play the head was going up but nothing moved and in order to lower the head I had to change function or put the unit in stand-by.
Now I'm not sure what to do as I have to travel to get this back. One of them used to work repairing B&O so should know about this but I'm still confused.
All manuals are available on site for silver and gold members, I dont believe that a B&O repair facility with just a little pride left would tell you that spare part and repair manuals are not available. Try to find another repair shop, 90 % of failures on Beocords and other Beo tape deck are belts.
Collecting Vintage B&O is not a hobby, its a lifestyle.

Excactly as Søren wrote. Find another repair shop. Sadly, the common answer in many repair shops today is: 'No spare parts available...' If it's not some module they can just swap, they don't even bother to try repair it. I have saved a few tape decks with problems like you describe - just by mounting new belts.
If you dare to try it yourself, new belts can be found on the net - but some here on Beoworld can also provide you with new belts. Try asking Martin 'dillen'.
I can not match Leslies experience in any way but I can join the club who newer saw other faultsin these decks than bad belts.I can supply a correct belt. Email me.

Please note that you need some skills replacing this belt in order to get this jobe done. There is some de- and re-soldering work to be done as well. Am I right Martin? Have to confirm that by our expert Do people get your famous workinstruction when ordering belts or is that just for lamps?
Why do I ask? Ever seen this fantastic video instruction on Youtube? Whish there were more of these video's (there are but not so many B&O related). Just noticed one on the Beoworld Wikis page from Steve (never been there before) who explains the different MKx types powerlink cables.
Thanks everyone for your prompt advice. This morning I spoke to the engineer who actually inspected the tape and was told that the belts are fine. He found some black plastic residue at the bottom of the Ouverture and apparently clogs/wheels broken? He said that it's an uneconomical repair and it would be better to change the whole tape deck if found. So that's it! For the inspection I've been charged £15, basically wasted plus have to travel half an hour outside Edinburgh to collect the B&O
Should I give up and stay with the partial working unit or insist?
Thanks again
Then he must have taken out the whole cassette unit to check. Cannot imagine that the belt is still okay I don't think these cassette units can be ordered. Are you handy enough to take out the cassette unit yourself to make pictures? It's already broken...
I'm not sure I'd be able to open the back of the Ouverture. I had tried but it was so difficult that I gave up. I didn't really want to break everything. What I don't understand is how these parts broke inside. The unit has always been looked after in an exeptional way, and had only me as owner. It's quite frustrating to know that I am in the 10% of the cases and not the 90%
You could send it to me! Maybe I can fix it?

Nice video But the 8000/9000 series is perhaps the easiest Beocords to open and to change belts on. Really 'service-friendly'.
It's a bit more difficult with the 2500/Ouverture's.
Today I have collected the Ouverture from the repair shop in Dalkeith. Shame it couldn't have been fixed. I have to say that I'm disappointed with B&O that spare parts can't be easily found. The Ouverture is not that old after all! I have decided to buy a separate second hand tape deck now.
