Hello,

I confess to my complete lack of knowledge about electronics, but I'm trying to learn.  In reference to the large gray dual capacitor in the 4002 turntable how do I determine its polarity?  One end has a single terminal and the other end two terminals.  About 3/4 of the way towards the end of the capacitor that has two terminals  CAN NEGATIVE is printed on the capacitor.  Can I take that to mean that end with the two terminals is the  negative end?

No.
The can is negative. That's the single tag at one end. Note that it is riveted to the can.
The other two are the positives, 1000uF and 4000uF respectively. Usually coded with a red dot on one of them and mentioned on the printing on the capacitor.
