If they work they sound absolutely fab.

but.....

quite often I have one of these two problems (or even both)

1) No wifi connection, so no way of controlling it via the app. where as my home wifi network is stable.

2) No sound/activity at all. They are connected through a high end RCA cable to my Marantz SR8012 receiver.

and it drives me crazy up to the level as being ready to sell them off. Despitethe great sound.

any thoughts, help?

thanks

Peter

Hi peter,

Is there any way you can connect the via wire to the internet? I have had the same issue and the wifi is just bad on these speakers, but for me when i have them wired it’s gone(but then i have an ugly cable theough the livingroom).

On the orher hand, i notice it a lot less as mine are connected to a bv so i don’t have to use the app much.

Your second point iam less sure about, but how do you have your connections setup(in the app/software)? Is the signal set to auto detect? And if so maybe try and set it to rca only.

Also maybe a silly question, but just to rule it out, are you sure it’s not in your reciever? As in, is it sending the signal through?

Try a LAN over Powerline. Devolo/D-Link etc..

Much better/solid connection than wifi and with the right model you can power-through the Adapter to your BL50 master.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Devolo-8385-MAGIC-STARTER-2400MBPS/dp/B07H5YPC7D/

Cheaper models available.

I find it just hard to believe that B&O still can't seem to figure out how to do WiFi in this day and age, and on a product as expensive as the BL50! The WIFi on my $500 Auralic Mini works flawlessly, ditto on my $500 Samsung TV.

I think B&O would be better served by never having put WiFi in high end speakers, rather than putting in WiFi that doesn't work. All that does is frustrate owners and lead to public relations problems for B&O. The idea of it is great but only if the execution is also great.

I'm afraid I'm recovering from the BeoVirus. Sad

It's rather pathetic isn't it

My BS2 is fine on home wifi, yet my (when I had it) BV14 was shocking.

It was in a room where every other device had zero issues.

The idea that a 30k speaker has similar issues is comical

Thanks all

I will indeed go through the nasty process of adding a network cable through my setup. It needs a few hours of cabling work unfortunstely due to a nasty setup of my living. I am comfortable that the wifi issue will be solved.

As for the  Marantz/no sound issue. I will change RCA outputs to see if that helps.
Otherwise I am still puzzled.

Thanks guys for your support
Much appreciated

Pathetic indeed. Guess it is time for me personally to completely give up on B&O.

As suggested, try powerline adapters if possible. Never failed me, networking my BV11 and Moment to my router.

Or these small TP-link. I use them a lot with devices that fail on WiFi. They can be used as bridges. Meaning take WiFi and send it on over Ethernet to the speakers.

Cheap and EXTREMELY small. Just about 5x5 cm. Can be powered over usb. So probably doesn’t even need power from the wall, only from

Beolab 50.

I may be incorrect but I think those devices take a lot of bandwith from the WIFI in the backhaul.

With Powerline adapters no WIFI is involved.

I'm also having the same issues and it annoys the hell out ot me. I have an eclipse and have then connected via WISA. All the other products in the range work ok on WIFI like my core and eclipse.

Whats the link for the TPLINK modules.

I forgot the link to the tp link, https://www.tp-link.com/uk/products/details/cat-9_TL-WR802N.html

Also I can’t say it affects performance negative on WiFi having them connected. I constantly have a plethora of WiFi devices connected at home and most don’t send or transmit much data, even my vacuum cleaner has WiFi. It’s just if they all would do it at once that bandwidth gets constricted.

Power over electricity works so so, I never recommend it because you don’t know usually how the wiring is done or how much disturbance there is on the cables. It usually works but slow. Or speedy depending on the location. It’s more clumsy plugs and cables as well. And you need one in both ends. You don’t need that with WiFi.

Thanks allot Michael, Have you tested these on the USB port of the 50's? I dont really fancy putting an ugly cable from my router to the 50s.

Unfortunately not, I don’t have those speakers myself. I have Beolab 20s. Beolab 50 would be nice but a bit to expensive and from what I gather not really well designed :/.

I think they would work but I can’t say for sure. I hope so :)

I forgot that they are only 300 mbit but I guess the network connection will be used mainly for remote control of them and not for any heavy data transfer?

300 mb is still sufficient for most streaming so I don’t think it should affect them in a bad way.

So I was finally home again to test the wired setup.

I plugged in a network cable and one speaker (the master) started to ply straight away.
So I did a factory reset in the 50's and now everything is working fine again.

I did a room compensation calibration with the mic and created a few presets. (Movies and Hi-Fi)
Now let's hope all stays fine with the wired connection.

If anything does go wrong again I will report back, so no news is good news!

Thanks for all your help and support.

Peter

Hi, My problem with my Beolab 50 is that they sometimes randomly looses contact between slave and Master speaker (fast orange flashing light in Master-speaker).

I got my speakers replaced a couple of weeks ago but last night it did happen again with the new speakers.

I wonder how many Beolab 50-owners who really suffers from this unstable connection between Master and slave-speaker. I hope that as many as possible is complaining to B&O Support so they finaly will fix this issue. Otherwise it is a fantastic speaker.

Do you happen to have the Eclipse in the setup, maybe?

If yes, this might help:

Hi MM,

I dont think that my problem with BL50 has to do with the Eclipse (Master looses connection with Slave).

I have also have an discussion with Mikipedi4 regarding this BL50 issue.

I use Powerlink to my BL50 and hardwired both Eclipse and Bl50 with Ethernetcable. I avoid Wifi as much as I can!.

But Thanks anyway.

Have a nice weekend!
