Hello All,

I have been spending some time removing the scratches and polishing the dust cover on my Beogram 4002. I am now just about ready to ready to reattach the lid to the spring and back piece. Knowing that the hinges can be broken if one is not careful, I thought I would ask those of you on the forum if you have any suggestions before I proceed.

By the way, Meguiar's makes a product called Scratch X 2.0 that I used as a last step after I had completed the Micro-Mesh sanding and Novus liquid polishing grades 2 & 3. It really gave the lid a nice shine.

Hi,

You mean attaching the whole dust cover assembly back onto the cabinet right?

The two mounting screws/bolts for that are spring loaded. Those are the ones that the "U" slots in the dust cover assembly slide into.

I make sure the dust cover lid assembly has the lid in the open position. Then it just slides onto those spring loaded bolts. Once into place you use a flat head screwdriver to tighten the spring loaded bolt. no need to over torque it. There is wiggle room on that mounting so you can make sure the dust cover lowers correctly onto the Beogram cabinet.

Hello Sonavor,

Thank you for the reply. The plastic dust cover is detached from the black "back piece" that would attach to the base as you describe. But I removed the dust cover from the back piece. There are two pins that secure the dust cover to the back piece by a long rod "spring" that has hooks on each end that fit into the back piece and are secured by the metal pins. The hooks rest on two small pads. I maybe am being over cautious with the reattachment but was concerned that I not break anything at this point.

I have never disassembled and reassembled that deep into the dust cover. Being cautious with it is a good thing. That spring mechanism is very strong so make sure everything is secure in place when working with it.

Thanks for the reply. I will be careful with the reattachment.

Too much time getting the dust over polished to mess it up now.

Did you ever fix it? I just got a Beogram 3400 turntable and fixed the arm to go on the record at the start, needed a couple of adjustments. I took of the the perfect dust cover off  the wrong way too. What a pain in the ass. I have 2 of the 3 brackets on and still need to finish one more.no instructions on how to get it back together ran out of energy and need good daylight to finish. Any suggestions on the last spring seems to be the hardest to get lined up so I can get the bracket and screw in.

Hello Tom,

Yes I got it re-attached but it was not easy. I had to align the metal spring rod/wire on the rubber pads and push down to get it into place, not without some scratches. My suggestion in hindsight is tape over anything that could get scratched in the process. The scratches are minor but can’t be removed, and could have been prevented had I covered the brushed metal strip.
Good luck and do as I say and not as I do. ;0)
