Hi Beofans!
I joined this forum and hoping to get some direction on a fix. A couple of months ago I bought a stunning Beocenter 9500 with a pair of Beovox S42-2 speakers. When I bought it the leds on the bottom panel where not working. I opened the unit up and the plastic clip holding the servicearm/hood prop broke off and the panel slammed shut.
After that, the bottom and top leds plus the numeral display did not function anymore, also the cd/cassette door do not open as well.
Apart from that the unit functions good. The touch panel responses (apart from the cd/cassette door controls). When I short the test-mode probe on PCB 43, nothing happens. I checked all the leds and they are all ok, also all the fuses are fine as well.
I do know my way around a soldering iron and multimeter but i am not an electrical engineer. So i hope that you guys can point me in the right direction. Because i cannot wait to enjoy this beautiful HI-FI system.
Lastly do you guys have some tips on securing the glass panels, both are loose on mine.
Thanks!
Hi and welcome to Beoworld!
As an owner I read most BC9500 threads, and to be honest I have never seen the fault you describe! I would suspect a power problem, possibly in one of the multi connecters supplying PCB 43 or indeed any of the display/control PCBs.
The service manual is available on site if you upgrade your membership, but from a quick glance at the schematics I cannot see anything obvious that you should look at. I am no expert, but it is quite difficult to work out which multi-connector does what within the BC9500! Perhaps others can help.
With regard to re-fixing the panels, I presume the glass has come unstuck from the plastic surrounds? There is quite a lot of advice regarding these on the forum, but I have successfully repaired two BC9500 by simply gluing the plastic frames back in place using super glue - the 'gel' type. I did not bother to clear away the old foam from the glass or the plastic frames for fear of scratching the glass. When re-fixing, make sure that you get the plastic pieces in the correct places, and stick the end ones first so that you can then easily centralise the middle pieces.
Good luck - the BC9500 is definitely worth fixing and using!
Hey Guy,
Thanks for the fast reply. After your message I double checked all the multi-connector's going to the touchpanel board and one of them was indeed loose. I put the cable back and all the leds on the top panel as well as the door controls work perfectly again!
Now the only problem is the bottom panel, because non of the leds light up yet. When I short the test plug the numeral display reads --.-- and non of the leds on bottom and top panel light up.
Could that also be a power issue going to the bottom board?
I did read the service manual, but I can't figure out what could fix the problem.
Thank you very much for the tips so far!
jeffs: Could that also be a power issue going to the bottom board?
Quite possibly - I would suspect the main connector (wherever it is) to PCB42, as that in turn powers PCB 43 (I think!). Check the connectors between the panel display boards (eg PCB42 and 43). I think from the schematics that the LEDs have a 7V feed, whereas the touch switches are powered by 5V, hence that would explain why the controls are working but not the lights.
Remember that when you initially short the test plug only the bottom panel should light up. You then press PLAY, RECORD and CALL to light up the left, centre and right LEDs in the top panel - presumably those will work?.
Anyway, good news that the top panel and controls are working - hopefully something as simple will resolve the remaining problems.
