Controling a Beoplay Speaker without the B&O app?

Hello Forum

as a longtime user of a BEOVOX RL45.2 I am thinking of getting some small BEOPLAY multi room speakers.

While I really like the design and the danish craftsmanship, I would like to avoid a brand based app to control my devices at home.

So my question is: do some of you control your BEOPLAY devices with open protocols like i.e. UPNP, MPD, DLNA (apps like: bubbleUPNP, MPDriod)
