Good morning. First time post to the forum so I hope this question hasn't been asked before and I simply didn't search deep enough.
After waiting 40+ years, I finally picked up my first Beogram turntable from a friend who was going to donate it to the Salvation Army. The stylus is broken, but that's another story. The unit is labeled "BEOGRAM 3400", but with the exception of eBay and a few videos on YouTube, any research I've done on this model brings up the Beogram 3400 Record Deck that was made in the mid-70s and has the ability to play quad-encoded records. The 3400 I have has the buttons slanted along the front panel; "TURN 45 33" then "STOP PAUSE START". A small wheel recessed on the inside seems to control the fine-tuning of the speed of the unit.
So I'm wondering what the "sub model" of this 3400 is or is it identified by the year it was produced . Is it called the "Beogram 3400 MK2" or something silly like that? Searching for "Beogram 3400" on the Beoworld site brings "Beogram 3400 Record Deck" page.
And speaking of carts, this one came with the MMC20EN. In trying to find a replacement, am I limited to that model cartridge only, or are there other B&O carts that will work with the tonearm?
Many thanks for the advice.
Aaron
You have the US-version.It's a completely different deck from the earlier Beogram 3400 (which is only able to reproduce quadraphonic records if fitted with the optional decoder).Yours has more in common with the Beogram 2200/2400 series (which cannot play quad).
You can use any cartridge of the MMC20-range, - you can also have your cartridge rebuilt with a new needle and suspension.

Hi Martin.
Thanks very much for the clarification. I was hoping you could clear another issue up for me. I noticed that the turntable was acting very sporadic so I opened it up to clean a ton of dust and other debris from the inside. While I was in there, I noticed that one of the electrolytic caps C17 on the main board was bulging and was leaking. It's a simple replacement and not a big job to recap the entire board. However, both C17 and C18 are 2.2uF/63v caps as they appear on the board. According to the schematic and parts list for the "2200 and 3400, type 5721, 5723, and 5726", C17 and C18 are listed as 1uF/63v. Would you be able to tell me which is correct (what's mounted on the board or what's down in the parts list) so that I can annotate my copy of the service manual with the correct information. My unit is a type 5726.
Thanks again,
They are not very critical. If the soldering of the two capacitors look original, I would just stay with what values the factory fitted.
