New product unveiled, launching November 2018. See https://www.bang-olufsen.com/it/beosound-edge or some first reaction, alike https://www.theverge.com/2018/8/29/17795192/bang-olufsen-edge-speaker-price-release-date-ifa-2018
Feedback? I'm personally puzzled, either floor or wall mounts seems "strange" design to me, but need to see it live.
i can only see the BO site and i see the 'gravity defying' wall-stand.
I really like it. It's unique
It's 50cm tho :-)
I like it. It has wow factor, which is what Bang & Olufsen is all about. Looks premium too.
I've not heard it but I'll assume it sounds great as it's B&O, after all.
If B&O launch it with an Interest-Free Payment Plan deal they'll sell them by the lorry load. It could then be affordable to 'normal' people and get many people back on the B&O train..
If anyone from B&O is reading this - study the paragraph above very carefully.

Wait until you guys hear this. It makes BeoPlay A9 sound average.... And that's saying something!
"You think we can slap some oak on this thing?"
I also love the design they did with the webpage too, that changes colour
So is this just like an a9? but more sophisticated?
Yes. Works with the Bang & Olufen App in the same way as BeoPlay A9 and has Multiroom built in along with Deezer, Spotify Connect, Google Chromecast etc etc. Just WAY better sounding.
Honestly don't know if you guys are ready for this. It sounds INCREDIBLE!

I really like it. Definitely has a premium look to it.

What do you mean by "average"? And how did you do the comparison test?
On another note, this approach clicks all the traditional B&O boxes for me. Customise with finishes and colors.
According the pics the drivers would be on both sides, meaning a wall mounted product would be protruding from the wall at least 50cm? If so, floor stand for me.
I really do like this. B&O please get the execution right.

Seems set for 3.250 EUR retail price...
Hiort:I wonder how long it will last on the floor in a family with children
It does not click to me any "wow" effect, I have to say (not heard it, just looking to the box).
I'm far more catched by the A9... stands out, has magic touch controls for volume... It's plastic on the back and not aluminium, I agree, but... became iconic in just 1 day. Not sure this will last to time, but happy to be wrong.

I really like that! The variable bass port is a nifty idea, too.
I wonder if I can persuade Mrs. B that perhaps BL90s weren't the end of our B&O speaker journey...

I really like it.
It takes me back to the older Beolabs. 4000,6000 and 8000. It has a really nice retro feel to it!
This seems very cool. I'll need to see and hear more about it before making a final judgment. I definitely like it better than some of the other designs lately.
BeoLab 5, BeoVision 7-55 MK2, BeoSound 5 Encore, BeoSound 9000, BeoLab Penta III, BeoLab 8000, BeoLab 6000, BeoLab 2, BeoLab 7-6, BeoSound 8, BeoTime (analog clock), Beo 4 remote.
Wall mount is not at all what I was expecting - it actually mounts on it's narrow edge and sticks 50cm into the room! The rocking volume control then operates up and down.
I like it but the "side-firing" operation will give some location issues and the wall mounting, while looking cool, looks a real challenge location wise so as not to sustain either a dislocated hip or a gashed head at some point!
Ban boring signatures!
@Puncher : clearly the wall mount is not possible in every home...
Considering how rare it is to see wall-mounted A9, I wonder if we'll see any Edge on wall mount in a real home!
By the way, if the wall mount has been done on the "normal" side (like A9), B&O may have had some easy sales from customers upgrading from an A9... Impossible for me to "upgrade" on my wall, so I consider I just spared 3250€

I've though about this a little more - the ideal place to me seems to be a low occasional/Coffee table in front of the Sofa toward middle of the room.
It gets the Tweeters off the floor to approx. ear level,
it is on a table and so is not a trip, barked-shin hazard,
it is away from animals and the smallest stickiest kids,
It looks lovely and avoids some hideous blob-shaped stone or vase thing that the Mrs. might put there anyway,
It is within easy reach from the Sofa for easy interaction.
Yep - low table-top standing if I were to get one (unless I can build a motorised plinth that disappeared into the floor when not required)
Or a motorised wall-mount that held it flat against the wall when not in use and rotated 90deg when required (and safely sat down).

That would be cool ;-)

Would have loved to be in on the pitch meeting for this. "Let's make a giant aluminum and cloth aspirin and stick it to the wall!"
Wall mount is far too deep for most applications I'd think, it sticks out too much. Have to say I don't like it, which probably surprises no one, it has no style, it's just a round aluminum ring. Beolab 3, 8000, BL11, those were truly stylish and innovative. This is just boring, just because it has aluminum doesn't mean it recaptures the style crown for B&O. Comparing it to anything they made in the 90s is just silly.
It appears to have interesting tech, the variable port for example, but that also makes it have yet another mechanical device that can fail, but it is interesting.

I'm afraid I'm recovering from the BeoVirus.

While I like it I doubt I'll ever buy one, its positioning is challenging and I have a Chromecast Audio connected to my 80's 5000 system so no new functionality.
Not sure I like the form. BL3, BL9. BL5 etc are/were cleverly styled around functional speaker layouts. This looks like taking a simple stylish form and putting speakers into it almost as an afterthought.
I'm still not sold on the idea that a single speaker with clever electronics can come anywhere near what you get from a pair of stereo speakers.

What is ‘proper stereo’?

Don't even go there - I know what he means and I agree with him!
Music has become "audible wallpaper" and so single speakers like this have their place in the modern world but sometimes (and now all too infrequently), for us Pipe and Slippers Brigade, there is still time in the day to sit inbetween a pair of speakers that have decent physical separation and close our eyes to listen to what we hope is a reasonable facsimile of the "soundstage" that the Band and the Producer signed off on as their "Product". (I also recognise that this assumption is fraught with issues).
No amount of clever EQ or active DSP can process every single recorded piece of music in a "considered" way, regardless of how much different music was auditioned during its development - I'd like to think Geoff spends time with "The Mighty Groundhogs" and "Durham Concerto" while working on these things but he doesn't!
It is a nice product but is isn't a substitute (for us oldies) for a "proper" sit-down stereo!
