Hi all, I'm new on here but have been a B&O fan for many years!
I have the chance to buy a Beocenter 2 with a Beocenter 2 socket unit, link cable and a Boelink passive unit.
I don't know anything about this range as my kit is much older so I have a few questions about usability.
The socket unit has DAB and the Beocenter has a late serial number so I assume that I will be able to receive DAB?
Will the passive unit run passive speakers? Or can I just connect the socket unit to another amp via its phono outputs and not bother with the passive unit?
I'm not too worried about full functionality as long as I can use DAB and play CDs.
Any advice would be much appreciated!
Hi there and welcome.
Assuming that you with ‘link cable’ mean a PowerLink cable, you can use that to connect the PL-out of the Socket Unit to the PL of the BeoLnk Passive kit.
This means that the Passive kit is used as an amp and that you should connect your passive speakers there......this is all you have to do.
However, the PL cable has to be an older one, a socalled fully wired one - otherwise thecamp will not turn on.
I also assume, that you have the connection cable Socket Unit <-> Beocenter 2.
Depending on your region, you probably won’t be able to use DAB tuner, since it (probably) will be an old DAB tuner - nowadays DAB is mostly being broadcasted in the DAB Plus (DAB +) standart.

The BC 2 has a date of 2005 on it. I have a masterlink cable to go from the BC2 to the BC2 plug unit (a long rectangular multi pin connector) and I guess I could use another similar cable from the plug unit to the BL passive unit? or a power link (round pin) cable?
I think that the DAB should work as I have several older DAB radios in the house (here in the UK) that seem to work okay.
I'm just wondering if it is worth the hassle of rigging up all the different units!
You are lucky then, if they still broadcast as DAB - however, will that still be so in the years to come!

N.B. The socalled MasterLink cable is only used if you want to connect the BC2 to other B&O devices as multiroom.

Thanks so much for the information, the diagram makes sense. I can see from some pics that I took of the various bits of equipment that the two rectangular plugs are different.
I have the chance of buying various B&O bits that have been removed from a large house. The new owner is not interested and just wants all the 'clutter' removed!
Most of the cabling is built in to the house so I may need to buy replacement cables.
I just need to work out what I could use at home.
I notice that the plug unit has an AUX INPUT would it be possible to connect a turntable to this input?
Then you’d first have to see, what/which cables you get, I guess.
Sure the Aux-in is suited for a turntable - however, that must have a RIAA preamp built-in or you must add one in between.
That sounds promising. Would my BG 5500 work with it?
