Hi everyone,

New to the forums and B&O products. Recently was able to snap up a Beocenter 8000. Love the aesthetic and clean all-in-one concept. I clearly remember it as Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ hifi in NL Christmas Vacation that gets killed by icicles (but I guess that was a 9000 :).

Anyway, the device arrived last week and was in full working order. It had been recently serviced (belts, mute relay, etc), which is why the auction grabbed my attention in the first place. The only issue was that the CD-tray hadn’t been locked in place for shipping but with a bit of gentle persuasion I was able to get it back in place.

I had it playing cassettes and cd’s for most of the afternoon without a single glitch and was a very happy camper until there was a sudden ‘POP’ in the middle of a cassette. The amp, the sliding doors and the cassette mechanism are dead. All controls seem to work and the CD unit is functioning: I opened the unit up and placed a disk. It reads the index, plays tracks, skips, etc, even though I can’t get any sound from both speaker sets and the headphone jack.

I checked for tell-tale signs of shorts, bad caps or loose connectors and everything seems to be fine at first glance. One thing I noticed is that the relay immediately “double clicks” at startup (whereas you’d expect a bit of a delay between the two, based on my experience with other amps) and any connected speakers get a cringe-worthy loud ‘POP’. I hear a relay when switching between CD and any other source.

I’ve looked around for possible explanations but can’t seem to find any accounts of machines with these combined symptoms. I don’t want to screw up an otherwise in great condition piece of equipment with guesswork repairs so if any of you hear bells ringing and can point me in the right direction, that would be awesome.

Thanks in advance!
