Need Help :Beosystem 2500 or Overtuere Tape not working, screeching noise

hello, I need help:

when I activate my Beosystem 2500 tape drive, I hear first of all a relay (or similar) crack and then a screeching noise.
But nothing moves!
Is this just on the belt or do I have to get a new tape drive?

thanks for the reply PAT.

Has anyone had the screeching sound of tape before?
If I have to remove the tape to renew the belt, I would like to be reasonably sure that the belt is the only cause, since the procedure takes about 1 hour and I would not reinstall the tape defective!
