Doing up a country house.
Most rooms B&O have a good solution (M5, beocenter 1, A6, A9 etc)

However I have 3 zones where I need to use 3rd party speakers (in ceiling, outdoor, and traditional mcintosh speakers)

Ideally I would like to hook these up so all accessible with B&O app so could use a core (or an old essence mark2) but it would need to run into an amp of some sort.

Does anyone  have advice or a decent compact amp (that powers on automatically upon signal) to use between core and speaker.

I have used so nance digital amps in my main house but they are large, buggy and frankly crap.

I have used a B&O Passive amp buy it is very old, and fairly low powered.

Does anyone have any good suggestions? Doesn’t have to be audiophile quality. Best would be if it’s compact so could bundle with Core nicely.

thank you!

I have an Essense + passive (x2) for two outdoor areas.  Yeah, they're not very powerful, but they also don't seem to mind being cranked up.  I've not heard any clipping or distortion.when run near peak volume from the Essence (via a cable from Steve at Sounds Heavenly).

For such purposes B&O offers the BeoAmps.

However a 2 is too little and a16 probably too much for the three rooms.

Two B&O Passive Amps seem like an inexpensive way to go. Does anyone know how many versions there were of this amp. What would be the latest version. Several for sale on Ebay.

Thank you as always

If you choose to go with the ‘B&O passive amps, you should be aware that you will need a special cable in order for these to trigger on and off, when connected to the BS Core (RJ45 PL output)

Please consult Steve @ Sounds Heavenly - I am sure that he can supply a solution.

(His website is currently down due to maintainance).

In the meantime read this: http://www.soundsheavenly.co.uk/beolinkpassive.pdf

Thanks MM,

My site is now up and running again Wink

For use with the newer BeoAmps or any non-B&O amp with RCA Line inputs, this cable will allow the Core to connect:-

But, but - the op stated that he would go for the Passive (BeoLink Passive/MCL2P) as an amp for his project.........if I read his last post right.

For that you have another cable solution!

Hi MM,

Thanks for that.  Yes, this cable will let you use a Passive with the Core:-
