So CES have startet and we are seeing the new televisions,

Panasonic and Sony have yet again presented Television with HDMI 2.0

As B&O have chosen to cooperate with LG then Harmony have HDMI 2.1 and their Stage solution.

So it shows that it is not easy to be in front with technology,

But now it seems that Tue Mantoni took a good and the right decision.

If Sony and Panasonic cant do it, what was the chance that B&O could by it self.

Sony and Panasonic have chosen not to, largely because they think it I s unnecessary at the moment

If you listen to the Panasonic head of European marketing, they just feel that the consumer demand isn't there right now for HDMI 2.1.

They may be wrong, but I suspect for the next year, it won't cost them sales.

People want the newest all the time, even if there is no use.

See how many on this forum that have complaint that the Eclipse was a C7 panel and not a C8 or later C9, and beginning from now not a CX,

I would guess that 99% of all people would not be able to see the difference between C7 and C9, but when you spend money you want the newest on the market.

Which I understand fully.

The approach B&O have chosen in brilliant IMO.

The funniest is software. Every time a web browser gets a (monthly and usually relatively minor) update, it's not only big news but people want it ASAP, as if the new update will revolutionise their life.

We seem to be programmed in to thinking that anything new = better

I simply want the hdmi 2.1 for the E-arc, uncompressed 20 odd channel music pass through. And added bonus that the soundcenter bit will be compatible for a long long time.

Its not quite the same with respect to the panel.

The Eclipse is still the same price at launch, despite the panel being 2 generations old.

If the cost of the Eclipse had come down by 1000-1500 to reflect this, far fewer people would have an issue.

And being a spec junkie for HDMI 2.1 with features that most will never use now, or likely for a long time is different to asking for an up to date panel.

The panels are only making incremental improvements yes, but thats 2 years of incremental improvements, and most reviewers agree that despite slow progress on OLED improvements, that the C9 fixes most of the image quality issues with the C7.

For those that aren't super sensitive image quality wise, then the Eclipse being priced same as launch is a bit offensive. For those who do genuinely appreciate the C9 image, then the Eclipse being generations old is an issue. Both groups have a legitimate point.

Add in also that the C9 has a much more up to date webOS, and this is not directly comparable to grumbling about no HDMI 2.1, which I agree is mostly complaining for the sake of it.

Otherwise yes, choosing LG was a good choice, at least in so far as the OS (while not appealing to all), has always been fast, stable and with a broad range of apps.
