Hi all,
those who remember me know that one of the things I like about B&O is that the older equipment is fixable and can be given a new lease of life.
Novotel have been removing their B&O Beovisions and these have been appearing on Ebay for very little money. The Beovision 6 and 8's can in no way be described as current or to be honest B&O's best offerings (hence the price point). I don't believe that anyone looking for a modern Beovision would buy one of these instead of one from the current range.
I did ask B&O if it would be possible to get hold of the service tool for private use but this was declined.
In some ways this is understandable. The argument over the years has been that dealers invest training and money in providing a service to their customers. If dealers really make money on PUC and software updates surely they must be up in arms at the loss of revenue with online and usb updates. However B&O no longer support these older models, so why not make the older software and firmware Open Source (much like some of the software used in the modern offerings) and let those of who like to tinker have a go.
BTW there are several projects using LG, Samsung and Philips TV with some interesting results.
